Its going to replace this babe :P

Give me an over sized paper filter any day. In my book all that matters is results. I used K&N when I had the need and I have a lot of experince with Amsoil old foam filters. When a K&N or AMsoil filter works they do great. The problem is that it is easy to do everything in a manner that looks right but still get a ton of material sneaking past. You have no clue until you get you UOA back and it looks like my kids have been playing with their Moon Sand kit on the inside of your engine! Paper might look boring but it works and it works almost 100% of the time it is as close to idiot proof as anything can be made short of a depeleted uranium block! Most engines do not gain a darn thing with so called cold air kits it is a wallet lightner in 99.9% of the case in which they are installed! Right up their with the Vernado!! So why waste money and time on something that might be as good as OEM most of the time but not all of the time? It is supposed to filter the air comeing into the engine if it does that better then the OEM then go for it but other wise leave it alone.

In this day and age of ever tightening emission laws and CAFE millage numbers you cannot possibly think that any one is selling a car onthe market currently that has an air intake that is restrictive to the point of any lose of efficiency? Those days are gone long gone you simply cannot get good fuel economy or good performance numbers with a overly restrictive air intake. The most you can gain is some peak HP where you spend all of a few seconds. Even in a 1/4 mile race at a drag strip the time spent at peak RPM going down the track is not the majority of the RPM range used since each time you shift RPM drops significantly even if no clutch is used due to gear reduction.

Case in point my 2003 Camry use's an Airfilter that is with an inch of the size of my Mother 4.7L V8 Tundra and my filter has more pleats and deaper pleats. So their is no way that my 2.4L I 4 with it slightly more then 6000RPM redline is goinf to need to breath as much air as Mom's 4.7 V8 yet the filters and duct work are almost identical in size. What would I gain by putting a filter like the one you have in this post on it? A whole lot of nothing! The car can not use the intake capacity it currently has so why put more capacity on the least restrictive end? If anything I need a bigger intake manifold and larger throttle body, different programing so I can turn more RPM's and maybe a a super charger or turbo charger then and only then would the thing hanging on the most open end doing the filtering count for anything at all!

Do have any UOA showing how well the current set up was filtering so you can compare the two? If not how are going to judge the difference in filtering as that is the purpose of an airt filter. One Honda driver a few years back made some cut outs that fit over the air metering portion of his air box out of filter media. Then he ran the various brands of filter for say 10-20K miles. Then he would remove them and remove the after filter strips he made. basedon how much dirt got past the filter to his post filter strips he was able to compare the various brands of Honda filters from OEM and After market. That might be an idea for you to try! ANything else is just going to be a subjective fell good opinion and not have any quantifable results that you can repeat.

I remember a K&N test for the Mercury Marauder's and it seemed like the power gain from there tests was in the upper rpm's. It seems like many people on here like the good old paper air filters.

it can depend a lot on the vehicle. If you purchase a high quality kit such as Injen, or AEM they may actually do dyno pulls. Some of their kits might show something like 4hp, other much better. I've seen numerous dyno charts from owners (not manufactures) to verify gains. Every dyno reads difference, and you will not see a claimed 15 hp from everyone's pulls, but some do have some positive effect.

Well I do Have used oil analysis and yes I will get new ones ...
And Synthetic Media ... I think is way better then Paper ,,

Its not even about gain witch is dyno proven ...
I like sound of the intake .. too ...
And I think with Amsoil filter I can get some better used oil analysis

StevieC from here is running his SantaFe on Amsoil Cone :) I'm waiting for those numbers ...

And Yes I do agree ... That In some applications .. CAI/SRI is not way to go ...

I think the best bet for filtration and airflow is a volant powercore (made by donaldson). The AEM dryflow does well in their tests, but they only test it up to 240 cfm so it probably won't do as well under higher cfm's (like when S&B tested it on a diesel and it only got 95.29% efficiency in coarse dust). Of course another thing to remember is that you can't rely strictly on these tests b/c there are a lot of variables and used oil analysis from lots of people show various filters doing a good job keeping dirt out.

Chambers! woow ! those are sweet looking filters ! yeay ! If I can fit one I will get it for sure

Volant ...

Thank You

BTW Amsoil filters are made by Donaldson too just different technology ..

There are only two 4.5" Available .. and only one is round ..

Why ?

:))

I will let you know more as soon as I will get that filter ... I'm still thinking about those Donaldson ...

Do you have any used oil analysis done with that Simota Filter ?

How do you like that sri ?

I think they both use nanofiber technology, but the amsoil one's just seem to be cellulose w/ the nanofiber on top. I wasn't sure if donaldson actually made the amsoil one's or if they were just made using the donaldson technology/method. From the looks of it the powercore just looks like a much better filter to last the 4 year/100k miles b/c it has so much more media (in the TP style roll). I really never liked the idea of cleaning the amsoil w/ compressed air, if it's dirty enough to cause restriction and I can't wash it then it's trash. Granted that is just my opinion and the powercores do cost about twice as much.

No used oil analysis yet, but that will change once I'm done with my 10k run on Royal Purple 5w-20, and a RP spin-on oil filter.

How do I like the Simota SRI? Check this out: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=153234.0

Power Cores are pretty big ... And what I'm afraid ... When I will put this in to that small box ( look at the picture ) It will not have enough space to draw air ?

Have you checked the overall length of the filter to see if it will fit in between the fender, and the mounting flange of the Simota? If you look with a flash light while the SRI is mounted, you can see that there is only about 3/8" of space between the inner fender, and the end of the Simota filter. It's very tight, and the overall length of a new filter will be critical.

no I'm waiting for my SRI

Simota
W:170mm x H:130mm x N: 114mm

Amsoil
W:150mm x H:152mm x N:114mm

so its 2 cm Longer ... I hope that It will Fit ..

Flange is 16mm so Maybe its shorter on flange ?

Yea, those [censored] rolls of blue TP don't fit anywhere. I am kind of in the same spot (not sure if one will fit in my heatshield), you could always build your own heatshield though. The powercores pull air through the flutes which are open on the end so as long as the end gets air it should be good.

yeah most of them are height 8" so I don't think that it will work ...

So now I dunno what is best option

Amsoil
AEM
K&N
AFE
Simota ( Stock )
