If this engine is "without oil" it can not be turned over, even one time. What they might mean is that the oil has been drained, but there is still oil in then engine. There has been only one creditable example of an engine running with the oil drained out of the sump and that's from Militec-1. That little stunt was supervised by their customer, the US Government and had to do with vehicles running after combat damage. Most of these examples are a hoax.

You obviously have never built an engine before.

Years ago I use to go to a car show where they'd pull a running small block chevy and small block ford from a junkyard. Drain the oil, and run them at a fairly high rpm until they locked up. People would guess as to how long each engine would run, closest would win something. I don't remember exactly how long each one ran, but it was more then a couple minutes.

I wouldn't say it was a hoax, just that it proves nothing. I drove a Ford 223 I6 several miles on 5 cylinders when # 6 rod let go at 60 mph. It went out through the block taking the last 2 lobes of the camshaft with it. I drove it to a rest area and called my brother. We towed it home. A couple miles from the house, we had to stop for a light at the bottom of a hill. My brother told me to drive it up the hill to save the clutch on his truck. I drove it to just in front of the house when the motor seized. 2 weeks later, I restarted the engine just to drive it into the spot where I replaced the motor. I have no idea what the engine oil was, except that it was coal black. This was 1970, so it was prolly 30 weight SA
