Here is a report from my 06 Eclipse 3.8L Mivec v6. Oil is Amsoil ACD 10w30/30 Diesel Oil. I changed it last fall before I stored the car for the winter. I also fogged the engine after the oil change, and ran 1 bottle of Amsoil P.I. during this summer. Oil has 5,177 on it with a Microgreen filter.

Not bad!

Hey, thanks for running a used oil analysis on Amsoil ACD - I was wondering what the numbers were on it.

No problem. I've been really happy with this oil in that car, even though the manual calls for 5w20 (for best fuel economy) or 10w30 for over 0deg weather. (I know, sounds weird). Never had any abnormal sounds or noises even in the cold spring days when the car first came out for the winter. I also run this in my i/o boat.

The MicroGreen filter is pretty nice. I took it apart after I used it to actually look at the construction. Pretty neat design actually. For my car, they were like $30 for the pair shipped to my house. I figured $15/each is not too bad when compared to Amsoil filters or other expensive filters. I'm on my second one now. I don't plan on using the oil forever, but I thought the Bypass filter was a pretty cool idea. Even if you are not running the oil forever, having the oil flow through the bypass filter can only help, sure can't hurt at all.

This is the first UOA on that car that I've actually been happy with. Although the first two are not horrible, I was just hoping for better. Maybe it is just the nature of the engine and my driving style.

BTW, as mentioned I was using a MicroGreen oil filter, and I have a Injen cold air intake on the car. It puts the airfilter right behind the fog lamp low to the ground. I have a Amsoil cone filter with a pre-filter wrap on it. Silicone didn't look too bad this time.

Wow, how did you get those insols to drop that fast? Nice.

I'd like to know what you felt, in order to most helpful to least helpful, to you anyway...really helped in those areas.

Thank you for the post either way, good improvements.

I would guess that the insols may have been lower due to the MicroGreen filter? The last filter was an OEM Mitsu, and the first filter was an Amsoil Eao (people say they get better with mileage?) Other than that, the only thing that changed was 0w30 to 10w30/30...

Any reason you are staying with a 10w30 Diesel rated oil? I realize it also 'specs' for API SL, but it seems closer to a Royal Purple type add pack(at least their previous oils, I see API SN RP has hit the shelves etc)...with different characteristics, but it does favor higher zinc and phosphorus like RP.

That sample was taking when changing the oil. It now has SSO in it. I just wanted to try the ACD oil out in the car. I've been trying to follow it for a while here, and have seen nothing but great results. Someone ran it in their 5w20 spec'd Acura (sorry I forgot the user) and that gave me the final go ahead to try it in my car. As I said before, I run it in my Ford 302 HO FI boat engine, and its been great. I like the SL add pack, the fact that it is a HDEO, and that it shows really good numbers for an oil without any added VII's..... I don't see any reason not to use it? I may switch back again next year after the SSO run is done.

Amsoil ACD has turned in some pretty good UAO's here. One guy(forgot who) ran it 18K miles or so in a Pontiac Grand Prix. I have had excellent results running it in air cooled OPE applications. I think it is one of Amsoils best oils, very versatile and is priced right.

I definitely can see where you are coming from in your reasoning.

I get the impression, though, that some older model eclipse which burn oil via exhaust(valve stems?)...

...seem to have the 'fear' of fouling emissions equipment. No problem for your engine. I didn't know if the difference between an HDEO vs a HDD was of specific concern for your app or not?

I don't think it's bad for your engine or anything like that, I am curious to see how Amsoil's SSO(I'm guessing 0w30 older formulation pre-AZO?) compares(though technically it's encouraged to give 2-3 intervals on a different oil before using a used oil analysis to 'compare' oils...even at that it's guesswork you know.
