I admire the Nissan VQ35DE engine, but as a long time Honda engine fan, and owner of an NSX, a 3G TL with the 270-HP 3.2L, and an S2000, I am not ready to hand over the Supreme Deity crown to any Nissan component. Let's compare how the engines run/consume oil/ etc at 250k miles.

I get average suburban FE of about 26 MPG in the 2004 TL automatic, with plenty of snot for passing and the commuter derby - have not seen where the VQ35DE could match the fuel economy, whill its performance is equivalent.

I will say that both nissan and Honda seem to be able to dial-up more HP from their V6's at will, while BMW has to go to Area 51 alien-retroengineering to get 25 ponies from their newest 3-series engines.

To stay on topic - RL is a decent oil, but it does not seem to perform real-world as the "killer" it seems to be on paper. I have been an RL dealer since early 1980's, but find it harder to justify, based on what I see here, and in the engines I service (mostly NSX's and other exotics) and race.

Based on TD's and MW's recs, I have started to use LC/FP and so far, so good. Have been mostly using Amsoil and Havoline engine oils, although i found a good stock of "Green Monster" GC 0w30, and bought the entire NOS of 7 cases!
