ammo shopping problems

WalMart has an odd policy on that.

None of the 4 WalMarts in my city have rifles or shotguns and limited ammo. Haven't seen them in the Dallas or Ft Worth ones either. BUT, I go a few miles south into a town that is essentially a suburb or Arlington and still largely viewed as "rural" (it's not...it's mostly a middle-class to semi-affluent suburb) and they have a small selection of rifles and shotguns and a lot more ammo choices.

I go to a truly small town far away from the bigger cities and the hunting and shooting section of their WalMart is significantly larger. It's like the size of the grill and garden section at the city WalMart.

It looks like WalMart may be basing it on population. Less than 100,000? you get guns and ammo.

Worth repeating. Sportsman's Guide is beating the pants off everybody right now. With their $10 off coupons, free shipping deals, etc - combined with the deadly low member prices - I'm very well stocked.

I guess that's part of multicaliber ownership - knowing the deal for each round. I got 4 boxes (50 per) of different .38 special at the gun show from $7-$9 per box. 200 rounds for about $30. SWEET!

Pablo, you need to reload! Get a Rockchucker starter kit, and you can load that 38 special for less than $100/1000 rounds.
Revolver straight-wall cartridges are VERY easy to load, even easier than semi-auto pistol (no headspacing issues).

I shoot .357 magnum. I had a local gun shop guy walk me through the reloading process. Price per round is $0.30 when I do it. I just ordered 20 boxes of Herter's(made in USA, per Cabela's) .357 158gr. JHP @ 18.96/50 with $5 shipping for orders over $199. This gets me delivered $0.389 per round. Like Pablo, I'm now too busy for the p/t job of reloading. When all of the stuff to do around here is done, might be a good use of my time.

For myself I never but anything from Cheaper Than Dirt due to all the bad press they've had over the years. In most instances I'll drive over to my local Bass Pro store and get it there. I like to see what I'm getting first before I lay down cash.

My suggestion to you is to live and learn as you go forward. Sometimes it just can't be helped.

Besides that ammo is so expensive these days and for a lousey box of ammo wether it be pistol or rifle it's gonna cost you about 20$ anyway.

I got my shipment from Cabela's today!WOO HOO!!! [color:#000000][/COLOR]right on the box it says [in leeetle tiny type], made by Fiocchi Ozark, Mo. Can't beat Fiocchi, it'll beat you! I am not an expert by any means, but their 158gr bullets give the term "magnum recoil" real teeth. The brass is as shiny as what I wore on my uniform, and the funny thing is the bullet jacket is the same color as the brass. The bullet has a nice deep pocket and just looks like TOP SHELF goods. Will try next few weeks.
