Other than bulk purchases from cheaperthandirt.com I only buy ammo from my local walmart. It seems like they never have 7.62x39 and 9x19 that I need. Its obviously the spot for people to buy ammo across the country so why in the heck do they never have ammo!?!?!? No matter what ammo at walmart sells out (in the popular calibers that is). Its not like ammo as an experation date on it so why cant they buy a huge HUGE order of bullets for each caliber!?!? I dont understand. It seems like they get like 5 bricks at a time of .22LR maybe a small handfull of anything else. Its a JOKE! I have to call every morning to see what they have because they get a truck in every night and they dont know what comes in each day. I hate it!

Yeah it's a Wal-Mart thing, I guess. There are a couple of supposedly good online ammo sales places, but I personally have never purchased anything from them. Ammo

Once a year I make 1 big bulk purchase from cheaperthandirt.com. Well Im out a few months in advance, did more shooting than I thought for 2010. You cant get a better price for 7.62x39 at $3.59 for 20rds!!! Walmart wants $5.00 for Tulammo which is a decent price but [censored] it they never have it!!! Seen it once!!! I want to go shooting on Thursday!

Gander Mountain just started a big Firearm sale with in-store ammo.

It's the ad on the right... http://gandermountain.shoplocal.com/gand...storeID=2401020

CCI Mini-Mag 36 grain copper plated Hollow Point box of 100 is $5.99...

The same in Maxi-Mag (22 Magnum, love my 22 Magnum)

Ad says 25 for $5.99

Bottom middle of page 6: $5.99

Cheaper than dirt is $6.11.

Apparently there are freaks that stand outside WM every morning at 7 am when they open so they can get the new super elite limited edition Hot Wheels toy cars that were restocked overnight.

Obviously something WM is doing is working right, you keep going in there day after day.

Their ammo and motor oil are probably loss leaders to get you (or your spouse) to buy profitable stuff.

I keep my frozen Hg (mercury) slugs in a dewars flask. I think it has a photo of The General '71 Charger on it.

Commie 7.62x39 has been in tight supply around here for about 9 months or so. It was plentiful during the big shortage, but not so much now for some reason. Maybe it is still being hoarded for TEOTWAWKI. Remington and Winchester is easy to get, but it's expensive.

When Academy Sports has cases of 7.62x39, sometimes I'll grab one. Otherwise, I just order Commie 7.62x39 from Cabela's.

I called walmart today and would ya believe it they had my 7.62x39!! A whole 2 boxes! WOW! Where did they get 2 boxes from yesterday? I hope it wasnt from that order they got in last night.... This sucks.... Well I picked them both up...... They better have more quick.

Cheaper than dirt does not always have the best prices. Surprisingly - Sportsmansguide has some good deals.

True. But for 7.62x39 and 9mm I havent found a better price. I know that ammunitiontogo.com has a better price for 7.62x54R that I need for my mosin nagants but I save on combining shipping with my other ammo. So I always stick with my cheaperthandirt.com.

cheaperthandirt.com vs sportsmansguide 7.62x39 (lowest available price)
$3.57 (FMJ 20rds) or $4.77 (HP 20rds)

I talked to my local wallyworld manager and they(or just his store) won't stock 7.62x39 AT ALL. But, all the other common sizes are usually there. I've never seen 7.62x39 at any of the other wallyworlds around here. Most of the wallyworlds around here don't have rifles/shotguns anymore either.

The problem with online shopping is you need to compare those that actually have it in stock and include the shipping, unless you're down the street and pick it up yourself.

ammoengine.com gives you decent price comparisons(without shipping?). But, usually I find that the best price is when a store is blowing out inventory that they're not going to restock anymore. This is why I also keep an eye on the sporting goods ammo section/forum at fatwallet.com and glance over slickdeals.net just so I don't miss something I might need.

I sure miss the old days when I would buy 1000rd of surplus steel core for under $100! Thank goodness I crazily stocked up then.

Good times they were! I've been forced to enjoy collecting the firearms rather than enjoying shooting them. Its a shame how much ammo costs. I can only afford to shoot a few good times a year. Things like gas, motor oil, and ammo shouldnt cost so much [censored] money!
