I had a wheel lose the stick on weight. Yesterday I called Americas tire in Hesperia,ca to see how much and how busy they were. I was quoted $35 per wheel/ tire assembly.

$140... I declined and hung up..This morning I had to go to the post office. 1/2 way there I couldnt take the shaking so I pulled into the Americas Tire in Apple Valley,Ca..About 10 miles away from the other store.

Here I was quoted $15 per tire for lifetime balance..I had them do all 4 for $60.

Why such a price difference between 2 stores 10 miles apart?

When I worked at Sears Auto there were different pricing zones. Santa Barbara was in the highest so things cost more, but we got paid more. I didn't know that existed until I did a price match to another store and almost got written up for it.

They're not the only ones to do this. Prices can vary between stores and even between stores and online.
True! I actually just bought tires from Discount Tire's eBay site - yes they are on eBay. The same exact tires available at the store I purchased online with free shipping and saved $169 over the store price. Then when delivered took them to my local small tire shop for mounting and saved more over the DT store. All together I saved $219 over the store price.

I'm surprised they still sell on ebay now that they closed their DTD site.

But you bring up another good point. If they list on eBay or Amazon, the price on each of those sites can also be different from each other, different than the price listed on their own site, and of course that can be different than the in-store price!

I was as well. Here they are : https://www.ebay.com/str/discounttiredirect

Maybe they have a "you bought your tires elsewhere" price and a "bought 'em here" price, and the second guy did you a solid.

They seem to present an onerous price for this sort of thing at tire purchase time to try to convince you to get the lifetime protection plan.

The tire store I worked at had about five different prices for an alignment. Pro tip, get the cheap one, they're all the same.

$35 is the mount and balance price.
