I like the Ford cop cars. The Chevys are [censored] and will probally break down in the process of chasing the subject.

A lot of cops I talked to when the old Caprice was discontinued prefered it to the Ford and had good things to say about it.

Yes, the Caprice was faster (vette motor) and handled better. when ur cruisin back roads (meant for 45mph) at 120 on the way to a call you need good handling.

120 on 45 mph roads? No way here in kY with narrow roads, hills and curves. At least not by me. :)

Carbon Motors is developing a ground up police car with a BMW desiel drive train. Could be interesting http://www.carbonmotors.com/

Looks like an excellent vehicle for highway duty. Best of all worlds, or as close as a car can reasonably come.

But I still think the Carbon Motors car is the best candidate...

Looks like GM saw the hole that Ford left with the abandonment of the CVPI.

Now there's a competition. Ford had the unchallenged monopoly for a good bit and, imo, offered a great product for one that stood alone. Naturally in Detroit all good things have a requirement of retirement ..so

I think this will win the maintenance war over the twin-turbo (what's its name?)....

Yes, the government "competing" with a private company for the acquisition of law-enforcement vehicles for another arm of the government... Naw, this couldn't possibly pan out in a predictable manner.......

Edit: All in good jest, no offense meant to anyone.

Too bad the Ford Police Interceptor is front wheel drive.... Carbon Motors is a great idea, I just think it will take a long time for LE agencies to buy into them. Maintenance, Certified techs and warranty issues will eliminate them right off the bat for most agencies.

I think the rear wheel drive Caprice is doing the right things so far. Time will tell.

Just reminds me of the "public" job postings that the city has. Where the person who currently has the job has to "re-apply" for their job..... They know they have the job. The City knows they have the job. But they still put the job "out there" to make it look fair.....

. No one held a gun to Ford's head and said can the Crown Vic.

You'll just have to live with the fact that Ford DOMINATED the police pursuit business for over a decade ..and did it with distinction.

I guess you can wager that the FWD twin-turbo thingie can top its predecessor. I'll wager it won't. I think it will be plagued with durability and reliability issues to make it too expensive for fleet service ..something the CVPI excelled at.
