"American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans" coming soon on Prime

It was the 2023 Le Mans.

This is the Garage 56 entry at last year's 24 Hours. Coming June 10th. Looks outstanding!

Le Mans that year was the same weekend that NASCAR was at Sonoma. I remember standing near the garage area talking to a friend that works for NASCAR media and we were watching Le Mans on my phone. A few Hendrick crewman walked by and stopped to watch with us.

Cool. Thanks for sharing. Recently watched the first episode of the Earnhardt mini series on Prime. Was really good.
Hard to believe The Intimidator has been gone so long. I was watching LIVE as it happened and I knew he was gone the minute it happened. I still have the newspaper article from the next day. As much as I pulled against him at times , that took a lot of the NASCAR out of me after being fan since my teens. Of course all the rule changes have took much of the fun out it too.

I saw it live too. Looked like a relatively minor accident to me, but when Kenny Schrader walked up and peaked into the window and then frantically motioned for help, I knew something was very wrong.

And speaking of Sr's death, watch "In The Blink Of An Eye". Watch the attached trailer, Mikey's "high/low" comment is powerful and will tug on your heart strings, especially when it's said in one uninterrupted convo like it was in the documentary.

Scott

Mikey and me. He is EXACTLY like you see him on television.

You know at the time , the wild flipping and near flying end over end and multiple roll overs were starting to be near expected. I think people had got to the point they did not think those guys could get killed. D.E. was only the 2nd driver I ever recall being killed in a NASCAR race. There were others of course in the early years. I hated how folks tried to blame other drivers for what happened to D.E.

Thanks for putting this up here.

It seems to me NASCAR has become more dangerous than F1 and IndyCar. I think you're right though. Those big, 3,600 pound cars offer a sense of false security.

Another thing I liked about both movies was how these NASCAR drivers all come from such humble origins, unlike the like the pay drivers in other motorsports, especially F1 - billionaires buying rides and then an entire team so their son can drive an F1 car.

For that reason, like it our not, I'm sure the vast majority of us BITOGers come from the same economic and social backgrounds as NASCAR drivers.

Several years back my sons gave me the 6 disc box set DALE narrated by Paul Newman.
Disc 1 DALE- The movie is awesome. Not sure but may not be some big Hollywood production but still really good job telling the story.
Tough to watch the first time. Not even sure who put the package together but it was for sale all over. Disc 1 has a 2007 date on it.

What's this movie?

Like the photo. When/where? Me and the boys stumbled upon old Bandit driver Harry Gant at Atlanta Motor Speedway just sitting there next to a souvenir truck waiting on someone. Lots of folks did not even see him there. LoL. He was super nice to the boys and so down to earth kind of guy. Too bad we all did not walk around with camera phones etc... back then.
Looks like I got some catching up to do. I was not aware of the documentary you mention. Thanks, I will look it up soon. (y)
