American car (big 3) lovers.

I have never seen the problems with American cars that people talk about. Sure none of our cars have been PERFECt, and absolutely trouble free, but then, very few cars are.. My current favorites would have to be....
2010 Ford Fusion (Especially the Sport)
New Ford Taurus
Ford Edge


Chevy Equinox
Chevy Camaro
GMC Sierra
GMC Acadia

Chrysler 300C
Dodge Challenger (Give me a V6 or a V8 I don't care, I just love ohw it looks and either would be faster than what I got now)
Dodge RAM
Jeep Wrangler
Jeep Grand Cherokee (Give me the 4.0L I6 back though.)

On another note though, my grandfather has been a GM guy for decades (after a very bad experience with a Ford F-250, a true lemon in every sense of the word. I will tell about it sometime maybe) But he is planning on trading in his 99 Silverado 1500 (35k miles) for a new Ford Focus. (By the way if anyone might be interested in it, he's looking for buyers. It's in perfect condition, essentially a brand new truck)

yes, they still are the big 3...check the overall sales figures very closely and you will see that. I had a link that showed something from Money Magazine, a chart of current monthly sales and 2009 to-date sales and 2008 sales, of all manufacturers, and yes, they still are the big 3, despite the liberal media's tendency to bash everything American, and claim Toyota to be the world-dominator. Yes, we're in trouble, but we can still call ourselves the Big3...

I saw a brand new Lacrosse and Lucerne in South Beach last night and didn't like either of them...The hood design on the Lucerne [with the chrome on the sides] looked hideous...The inside of both looks very cramped.

I have only had these problems with post 2000 GM trucks. NEVER with Chryslers. I am talking about piston slap engines, bad differentials, bad water pumps & ps pumps before 15,000 miles, loose body parts, inoperable headlights, bad cd players, bad TPM syatem, bad rear suspension bushings at 5,000 miles, leaking axle seals at 10,000 miles etc etc.

My 3 1990's Dodge Durangos all driven over 100k never had one repair issue. They just don't build like they used to.

In no later than 3.5 years, I plan on buying another GM vehicle with my GM card earnings. I'll be looking at the new Equinox with the ecotec or malibu. My wife will want a bigger vehicle for an expanding family so most likely a midsize car or minisuv from GM.

I test-drove a new Lucerne in early 2007, and while it was pleasant to drive, I found the interior not so much cramped as dull. No chrome, a little wood (however fake, it looks nice), and no contrasting colors. The '06 LaCrosse I had on an overnight test drive later that year was smaller inside, but it had some chrome and wood touches I liked.

For me its not a "I hate domestic", [censored] I've owned domestic most of my life and only 1 Scion for a year and a Nissan for about 7 months. My problem is, when you go in to the dealership, they(like most dealerships) don't treat you well, their products are usually good but compared to other competitors are priced to high due to labor/unions.

I'm done buying new anyhow as it is a huge hassle wheeling and dealing at several dealerships, and buying a new car is possibly one of the worst investments. They depreciate so fast that first year, dealers will sell a 1 year old car or even a current model year used car for the same or more than a new one, and you know on trade that the person got shafted hard core.

68 Impala 2 dr Fastback coupe with factory 250 six and powerglide. I switched it to a 327 TH400 trans. I learned mechanics on this one.
83 LTD 4 door with 2.3 litre C-3 "mini LTD"
98 Ford Taurus vulcan motor still own
96 Sable wagon for 2 years.
92 Dodge D250 Super cab 5.9 V-8 still own.

I like a fair amount of the American cars/truck that are coming out in the last few years. Ford appears to be on the right track, and Mulally seems like a smart guy at the helm. With him they have a very good chance of being successful.

All hail to the Big Three. I hope they can regain their former Glory........... I'm rooting for them anyway.

Favorite new American car: Dodge Challenger
Favorite "practical" new American car: Tie- Dodge Charger and Ford Flex (the Ford would win if it weren't front-wheel drive)

I've always been a Mopar guy for the most part (I currently own 6, ranging from a 1949 Plymouth Coupe to a 2005 PT Cruiser (wife's car). My daily ride is a '66 Dodge Polara, or when my daughter doesn't need it a '99 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 (its technically "her" car, although it still lives under my roof ;-) ) The longest run is my '73 Plymouth Satellite which I've owned since 1980 and put >400,000 miles on. The Satellite is currently quietly awaiting restoration or parting out (sob) depending on other priorities.


I've also owned a couple of Fords and GMs in the past. 80s GMs kinda put me off the brand, but some of their current stuff is quite nice. The Malibu is a very practical mid-size car and drives great. I'd take one if I were in the market for that kind of car.

I love the Cadillac CTS, especially that they offer with a manual transmission.

My requirements for car are fun to drive and manual transmission and reasonable repair/maintenance costs. I ended up with a turbo Subaru Legacy but could care less on nameplate.

Our Aerostar has been as trouble free, reliable and durable as any vehicle we have ever owned.
The old dear has been just fine from the day we drove it home new.
Ford apparently can engineer reliability and durability as well as either Honda or Mercedes, based upon examples of each we have owned. All good machines, the Ford as good as any.
After all, you buy it to drive and to use, not to impress the neighbors or your co-workers.

I almost bought a Charger a couple years ago. It was a nice handling, powerful, big American car, with a cool engine. I also thing the Cadilac CTS is a great car. The old model drove fantastic, but the interior was attrocious. I think the new CTS's are beautifull.

The Ford Flex is a cool, one-of-a-kind car too.

The Fusion is one of the best looking family sedans out there.
