I was looking for tickets at my local AMC for Dunkirk at the IMAX. It says it has reserved seating where you select you seat ahead of time and fancier seating, too.

What's you experience with reserved seating. Do people respect the assigned seating or is it still actually first come? I've always picked off time to ensure I get good seating in the past.

There is a local theatre chain by us that does reserved seating during peak hours, and/or popular movies. No having to get there early, rush to find a good seat, etc. I can stroll in just as the previews are ending with no worry of not finding a good seat.

Once we accidentally sat in the wrong seats, and on one occasion some people had sat in our seats by accident, but otherwise people do respect the seating arrangement. Usually there are attendants to direct you to your seats.

I have watched movies in many different cities at AMC, Cinemark, and Regal with reserved seating and never had an issue. The tickets are clearly marked and I would guess that **most** people respect the seating arrangement. Theater management can always sort out any issues that you have.

Most of the theaters around here are going that route now. When you go to the ticket window, you have to pick your seat from the display. So if that is going to be the case, I'll always purchase on line in advance to get the better seats.

From my experience I have not had any issues with others trying to take my seat. They are nice now that they recline, just wonder how many seats they lost to install the nicer ones?

Ditto. People had better respect reserved seating, or they get bumped from the flight United Airlines style!!!!

Yes, I'm hitting Dunkirk in IMAX at AMC too. Highly rated historically significant true story. Real Spitfires running Mobil1 High Mileage 10w30 too!!!

I've never had issues once in the actual theater. What I have seen issues with is people trying to figure out the self serve kiosks and fighting about what seats to pick all while allowing a line to form behind them.

I only go to theaters that offer this type of seating now. There is one near me called Moviehouse & Eatery. Also, the local Cinemark at the mall switched to reclining chairs exclusively with reserved seating. I'm not thrilled with the extra cost, but I have found that spending more money tends to draw a more respectful moviegoing crowd. I see a lot less chatting and cell phone use when people pay $15 for a movie ticket. I gave up on dollar theaters and "cheap" matinees a long time ago when the rank and file thought they were in their own living rooms instead of a large shared venue that actually contained other people who wanted to WATCH THE MOVIE.

I have only once ever had a problem with reserved seating at iPic theatres.

Bunch of kids had taken up the whole row except for the two end seats. My seats were in the middle. They asked the kids to move down to make room for us at the end of the row. I told them to go stuff it. Contacted corporate, and after threatening to file a chargeback for refusal to provide agreed services, they refunded the price of the tickets, my dinner, and my beer. Gave me free passes to another showing as well.

I used the free passes, but will never go to IPic ever again.

AMC is great. you really need to join their Stubs membership if you go frequently. Gotten a lot of free stuff out of them using my accrued points. Doesn't take long to rack them up either.

Technically It should be Chicago Airport Security Style.....

It's awesome. It's especially handy if you're seeing a movie with many people.. some of which are always late. (No saving seats, rushing to the theatre after dinner. Etc)

Very true. Good thing they don't run movie theaters.....

So, seeing Dunkirk means we can overcome the shame of seeing "Logan Lucky" in the near future (???) Balance in the universe is necessary, you know.

Reserved seating is the only way to go IMO.

You can purchase your ticket online minutes or hours or days ahead of the show and arrive at the theater and waltz right in rather than stand in line for 30 minutes hoping to find a decent seat.

People respect the assigned seating. It is not an option.

Same for any moviegoers who use their smartphones and check for texts !

At M&E they promptly deal with phone users. I have been going there over two years and only once had a guy using his phone. The waitress asked him to stop and he did. Since they serve food if you need anything you just press a button next to your seat. Some people are just clueless.

Usually those theaters serve food and drinks to you.

I absolutely hate it. Staff walking all around and standing in front of you the entire movie. People with lights on so they can eat their food, ordering food and drinks in the middle of the movie and it disrupts the entire thing.

I don't want to eat a full course meal while watching a movie. I'll go out to eat either before or after at a restaurant with much better food for far less money.

I will never set foot in a dumpy AMC or Regal again. So gross to sit in those theaters.

There are 3-4 chains in Central Texas that do a real nice job.

Second on the recommendation for Moviehouse and Eatery. You pay a few bucks more and the clientele is better.

Wife and I go once a month. Has nice cozy electric leather recliners. Push button ordering.

You can order whatever you want, from a steak sandwich to a bottle of wine/beer or ice cream. Has a full bar with craft brews, and cocktails.

Lighting is dim and focused on only the table so it is not distracting.

Talking rules are enforced and wait staff is VERY GOOD.

Price for seating for a movie is $11-$12 per person, and plan on about $40-$50 for dinner, not too bad.

I laughed, because New York just banned alcohol sales in movie theaters. So silly. They need to train staff how to control what they pour, and not overserve people. I have never seen a problem with drunk people in a movie theater in Texas one time.

I saw it twice. My local Regal has one of the last 30 or so full IMAX screens left in the US. It was just renovated, and they sell beer! The first time, it was at night, packed, and assigned seating. The second time, it was a matinee, half full, with general admission. Both times, everyone was very polite. They got very quiet at the intro, and no one got up until the end. Go see it, and on the biggest screen possible. A true IMAX film only comes along every few years, and this is probably the best one ever.

You would think that, but if you choose your seats wisely it's not a problem with the layout of M&E. They also don't have lighting for the seats. But, as with anything else, it's all personal preference.
