Ambient Lighting ?

I don't see why not. You would need to tap into the headlamp switch, which means you'd have to run some of the wiring differently.

i dunno man, they both have this big scary warning..

but honestly neither look terribly difficult to do.
Do you really need the anti-theft codes every time you disconnect the battery? what a PITA...

Is it used to shine your shoes? :-) What is idea behind this? Shouldn't this be tied in to interior lighting? Why does it have a special switch?

My Audi just turns them on when the headlamps are on. It adds a nice touch, but really doesn't do anything.

Some might argue that it's distracting at night because you have a faint glow at the bottom of your peripheral vision.

I would agree with this statement, depending on how bright it is obviously. If it's just in the floor area, and is faint, that should be okay. I think our Acura has this. But if it's bright or on the doors anywhere, it's glare to my eyes.

I have a new 300 as a loaner right now and there's too much ambient light glow in the cabin, even with the brightness level turned all the way down. The door handle area glows, there's massive glow around the speedometer and tachometer, and the large 8.4" touchscreen doesn't get dim enough. This is all a light blue hue, so it's visually distracting when trying to focus on the road at night.

I prefer to keep cabin light levels at a bare minimum. My '01 Cadillac STS had a cool feature where you could turn the gauge cluster completely OFF, and just have the small digital speedometer readout at the top of the cluster.

My 2012 Acura TL does not have that or at least I have not noticed it. I suppose if I lose some coins on the floor, it might be good to have that ambient light :-) Fortunately, with EasyPass I don't remember putting the coins in last decade!

Saab did that on all their vehicles - would turn off all lighting in the cabin except the speedometer from 0-70 mph or something like that. It was widely mocked by the automotive press but boy was it handy to have.

I've been thinking about trying to switch the dash lighting in the Jeep to red for better night vision. The greenish lighting isn't too hard on the eyes, but I do run with it fully dimmed.

Acura must have cheapened out. My car has no ambient light :-( How am I suppose to admire my passenger's high heels without the light??
