Nothing against Amazon but I still have to try on clothes, shoes, etc for the best "fit". I do have some Levi's 550 relaxed fit in my Amazon shopping cart 'cause I know what size of those to get. Otherwise, I think I've bought a belt online... My wife does buy a lot from Kohls (.com) and it's worked out fine size-wise, as far as I know.

I'm currently wearing socks and a sweater from Amazon. Bought some shoes from Amazon but not sure they fit well enough. No one locally had the shoes I wanted in the color I wanted. If I decide to return them it pretty easy to take them to my local Khol's store and drop them off.

yup me too.
Ordered jeans and didn't like them.
Got a return label from Amazon and took them to Kohls and my refund was in my bank the next day.

It's been a few years, but I'm a tall thin guy and I wear a 34 inseam and in the styles I wear, the stores seem to have stopped carrying a lot of slim waist pants with a long inseam, they must've realized that people weren't actually buying them and scooping them off the clearance rack when it came time, which worked out well for me for several years.

I don't like dealing with returns so I'd rather try on first. Maybe socks and undershirts would be ok, the sizes are fixed and not much of a risk.

Wife buys and returns lots of clothes regardless of where it is from. She use Amazon, Land's End, Gap, Macy's, etc. She buy them all online and return them all in stores.

For Amazon they can be easily returned to UPS in person, and she does her monthly return trip to the mall (usually $500 at a time). The way apparel retail goes in the future is online for faster turn around and better inventory control. Having expensive mall rent and labor to pay is not good for business.

Nothing beats going into Kohl's or JC Penny and getting cheap t-shirts in the discounted t-shirt rack for a couple bucks each, then head over to Target for cheapish underwear and socks. I would have thought Amazon would be a last resort because what you want is not available locally.

How ridiculous. Who buys clothes online? I need to be able to see it in person and try it on if needed.
People who live really far from clothing stores. Good number of people in this country would have to drive 100+ miles to get to a place with a wide selection of clothing stores. Not something one always gets at the hardware store, although, most of the men in my area wear the same OSHA striped work shirt and coveralls from the hardware and feed store. LOL

LOL. True. Most of mine come from Walmart or Rural King. All my clothes are work clothes pretty much except a few nicer shirts.

I live next to a Target. We buy clothes from Target, shipped home online.

Why? They don't carry everything in stores, they also don't want to waste space selling something they only sell 25% of the volume and profit than other high volume stuff, or they have to charge a lot. Between the 2 they decided free shipping is good for business.

The same reason people buy TV online and laptop online, I probably would think twice if it is no return but in the US where returning to store is easy and no hassle, I'd just buy it and decide if I will return afterwards.

Why wouldn't you buy clothes online is more like the question. You have 3 months to leave it in the closet to think about it instead of just try it out in store to see if they have it in stock or on sale. You can buy things that are too low volume to be sold in store like certain combination of color or size that you have to order anyways, and you can buy things that they don't stock in Wyoming but you are there, and somehow the only one left in the nation is in Alabama. Why wouldn't you want to buy it online if they pay for shipping?

Why would the store sell it online? They rather lose money on shipping it than destroying the unsold inventory because nobody wants to buy it for 75% off.

In fashion a lot of things are not available locally, and for retail they need to order months in advance for the season and they need to sell them hot FAST. Nobody wants to intentionally sell you a $2 shirt because it cost them $3 to make hoping to sell it for $20. The $2 shirt is there because they couldn't get rid of them and they are losing money.

If they sell it online they may be able to sell them for $10 each and discount to $5 in the final sales, with $2 shipping each.

Yet there isn't as much talk about how Amazon is killing small businesses (as when WM was opening new stores rapidly in the 80s and 90s).

I’ve bought 5-6 pair of pants from Amazon and no problems with the way they fit.

Socks, underwear and plain white tee shirts. All fit just fine.
