I bought Wix Charcoal type cabin air filter for my E430 about 1-2 months ago from Amazon for $17.xx and a cartridge oil filter to have free shipping. The filter is matched exactly with the OEM filter. I had 1 in my cart and wait until the remaining in stock down to 1 then they may lower the price to about $10-12 I will then buy another set as spare. Two weeks after I bought mine, they lowered the price to $15.xx and it was at this price for about 2 weeks. Now they just raised the price to $86, about $70 more than I paid, I was very lucky to buy this filter at the right time. The price of this Charcoal cabin air filter at local dealer is $189 plus tax. Below is the message from Amazon when I log on and view my cart.

"Please note that the price of Wix 24778 Cabin Air Filter for select Mercedes-Benz models, Pack of 1 has increased from $15.80 to $86.58 since you placed it in your Shopping Cart. Items in your cart will always reflect the most recent price displayed on their product detail pages."

Amazon's been all over the place the last couple of days. I've got 30-some items in my cart and like to watch price changes in an attempt to figure out their pricing algorithm.

Today, I scored a lower control arm for $34 that was $72 on Sunday. Stll can't figure 'em out, though. Mostly luck.

Several years ago they had some VERY volatile prices on power tools and I was able to stock up at some amazing prices at the bottom of the dips.

If you have the time to monitor Amazon prices day to day, you can get some amazing deals. Amazon has really good prices even without the price dips. I just ordered about $500 worth of tools from them, MSRP of over $800.

Yup, if you figure it out please let me know. Strictly their own schedule on price drops as far as I can tell.

I caught one bargain though: A while back I spotted Monroe Reflex shocks for my Dakota- front ones only- for ~$25 each, free shipping. Hmm- truck's over 90,000 miles, 8+ yrs old, so went back the next day to see if they were still available- and price had dropped to $18.xx each.

My cost on a pair of Reflex Shocks was $37 shipped! About 30 hours after placing the order, price had gone to over $40 each.

Still waiting for the rears to drop in price!

I recently bought a pair of trunk struts for $5 apiece from Amazon, where they cost $20 apiece locally at Murray's.

I'll have to start monitoring.

wow, that is a price swing. Is it fancier than a panel filter? What gives with that? Amazon price changes are one thing, but 10x-plus price change is really odd.

Most MB after 1998 have two types of cabin filters. Standard paper to filter dust/pollen and it is in the path of air flow into the cabin regardless if the air is recirculated or not. The second is charcoal activated filters to remove the odor when it is turned on with a switch on the dashboard.

The paper filters are fairly cheap at around $10-15 for a pair, the charcoal activated filters are expensive but the change interval is much longer because it is rarely used. The original OEM charcoal filters were in the car for more than 10 years and still working well the last time I used it about 3-4 months ago. Since I bought a pair for only $17 I decided the change out the OEM. The size, construction and quality of the charcoal filters is worth about 3-5 times the standard paper filters.
