I used to sell it in the late 80's and into the mid 90's. It was the main brand of fluids( ie; oil, gear, tranny )the local NH based parts store chain I worked at sold. Had a couple heavy equipment/truck customers who really liked the XLO diesel oil and the gear oils. They bought tons of the stuff in 5-gallon pails all the way up to 55 gallon drums. The regular oil and tranny fluids never seemed to really sell all that well other than walk in customers.

It was "okay" although I would not have considered it great or really even good. Just okay. That was back then however. Not sure what it is like today. That parts store chain still sells it as their main oil.

This is the company site if you want to check it out...

I believe both Amalie and Kendall were taken over by Brad Penn. The oil still comes out of the same refinery.

The folks that make Brad Penn just bought the old refinery. Both Kendall and Amalie were long gone before they purchased it. ConocoPhillips now owns the Kendall name and Amalie is now it's own company in Tampa.

AMALIE stands for "Add Miles And Life In Engines" according to its old commercial. I think it was one of the best oils but its refinery along with the Kendall's in Bradford, PA were purchased by American Refining Group, Inc. (ARG), in 1997 from Witco. ARG still produces the truly Bradford paraffinic based oil under the Brad Penn brand. So, I don't know how good the current Amalie oil is because its base oil is no longer coming from Bradford.
