Hi,

My nerves are shot. I was driving along a windy back road in the Pocono Mountans in PA. Around one curve, I saw a guy in a corolla, close over in my (oncoming) lane. He corrected quickly, and for a split second I thought all was OK, however he over corrected, went too hard to his right, rode up onto the steep hill on his side of the road, flipped his car, and then it landed on its wheels.

I had slowed, but he must have been going very fast, as when it flipped, it was just about next to me. My car (I was in the BMW) was saved by probably all of 10 feet.

The airbags didnt go out, the lights were still on, and I think the engine was still running! Overall damage looked relatively minor, no glass even broke!

It was scary. The guy walked out and then went into the house to call a towtruck. I didnt have my cellphone with me when I stopped to see if he was ok... of all times to leave it at home.

My GF was about 20 seconds in front of me. Good thing she wasnt really close, or he might have hit her head on. She said he flew by in the opposite direction. She said she felt the force of his car coming at her, as they passed by one another. She estimated him to be doing ~75 when she was doing about 35.

Talk about right place at the right time, a split second slower or faster, and things could have been a LOT worse.

Watched a wheel fall off a fiero today. It was wobbling (I thought it was a bent rim) and before any red traffic lights (where I'd have jumped out and notified the driver) off it went...

Only two studs out of five were left sticking out of the rotor, and the aluminum wheel was chewed up real bad too. She just had work done last week; I bet that mechanic feels terrible. She got towed to Sears by AAA.

Keep some space between yourself and everyone else out there....

JHZR2,
about 5 years ago, we were travelling back to my parent's place along some country roads, when about 300m in front of us, I saw a Corolla get crossed up, over correct (dropping the kerbside rear onto gravel), and spear across the road, and flip down an embankment, landing upside down, facing the wrong way.

Fortunately the two ladies in the car weren't seriously hurt...really fortunate as it turns out.

There's no mobile phone coverage along that road, and we were 50km from either end. So we left a party (who had first aid kits, blankets and water) with the ladies, I went one way, and another group the other.

Turns out that Boorowa police station is unmanned, so I spent 15 minutes talking to a call centre, who advised me firmly that they could not initiate a response team, until I could give them the street name.

"If you are in Cowra, it's the road to Boorowa...If you are in Boorowa, it's the road to Cowra".

If the women had been seriously hurt, I shudder to think what the 45 minute total delay in initiating a response would have resulted in.
