Painting out in the open?

I'm only a hack myself. But they look like hacks to me. That is the sort of work I would do on a rally car. Not on a customers personal car.

But they will likely make a decent living from it. Just for the fact they are female, and other females will go to them.
Unfortunately their success will not be judged by their works. But the fact they are females. Which in this day and age automatically gives you a 'pass'.....

That wasn't paint, it was primer. It's going to get sanded down. I'm would guess the paint goes on in a booth.

How else are you going to get the filler on the car?

There's not a high end show car out there that doesn't have filler spread on them.

There's nothing wrong with using a little filler- even the show cars will have some. The key is using as little as possible. Get the sheet metal as straight as humanly possible and use a touch of filler to fill in the shadowy low spots (a few thou deep).

Plenty of paint is done outside a booth and it comes out just fine. And remember- they're not a body shop yet. If they are able to realize their goal, then no doubt a paint booth is in the works.

I used to own a paint and body shop, and always had a couple of women working for me.

The ones in the video have a lot to learn. And they need a pneumatic flat board if they want to make money.

Definitely need a good dust mask when sanding.

That and a sponsorship from PPG or one of the paint makers - they want more women in the automotive trades.

When I was taking auto body classes at the local community college, there was a woman in my class. I was taking the class for fun, she was there as an union apprentice and worked at a commercial body shop that saw lots of buses and trucks.

The reason why the auto repair industry is looking for women to enter the industry is because men traditionally being involved and knowing others that are employed in it know that the business in general treats the employees like poo, and increasingly more and more males are shying away rightly so in my view.

People tend to forget that women built many of the weapons, engines and aircraft used during WW-II. The craftsmanship was excellent. I see no reason for sub standard work.

They probably have a good idea if they're looking to attract women customers. Most of the women in my wife's office refuse to take their cars in for inspections and servicing. They have their husbands or boy friends or male family members take their cars. They are paranoid of getting scammed or getting work done they don't need. They feel shops are less inclined to take advantage of men.
