Alisyn 0W-20

Okay, I decided to try out an extended interval with a few tank fulls of 110 leaded fuel along the way. I changed the filter and topped off the oil with a >>0W oil, less than a half a quart. I used leaded 110, which is why I am guessing the lead is so high. Also, I spoke to Alisyn, and it was said that they do use antimony in there oil which could come up as lead. TBN is low at 1.3, but I also don't have a VOA to compare it to what it should be. Although, I should have one within a couple weeks. Sorry, you'll have to click the link, thanks for looking.

I had Blackstone do a VOA on this exact product two weeks ago. Here is what they said:

"Nothing too unusual showed up in this virgin sample of 0W/20. The trace wear of iron is increasingly common in virgin oils. It isn't really a problem though it shouldn't really be there. No moisture or insoluble material was found. The additive package is quite different from a typical gasoline use oil, in that it contains almost no phosphorus. The TBN was strong at 8.9 so this oil starts out with lots of active additive."

All numbers are zero except for what I have listed:

Iron 1
Lead 2
Silicon 1
Sodium 1
Calcium 1852
Magnesium 4
Phosphorus 3
Zinc 310

Tested viscosity was 49.7 sus
Flashpoint was 400F.

A very strange additive package indeed.

6000 miles? Of flying? I thought it was measured in engine hours?

Iron of 41 = bad.
Fuel dilution = bad.

Go get some Shell Aero or something else in that plane. Steady state plane motors should not show such high wear. Is it not coming up to temperature??

That is a highly unusual additive structure. Maybe they are taking after Fuchs Titan GT1 0w20 product, and have a killer organic biodegradable additive package in there, instead of the solely metallic one.

Sorry, I haven't posted the usual information. Like it's a 2006 Lancer Evolution 4 cylinder Turbo. When I spoke to the rep, it was said that I was to start off with 10W-30 and gradually work my way down to a combination of 0W-20 and >>0W oil, and that is exactly what I did. At 6000 miles I changed the oil with a filter change at 3000 mile, K&N gold. I have been running straight 0W-20 for the last 3000 miles now and will be sending in another UOA and a VOA to varify my standings. Interesting thing happened as soon as I put the oil in though. The motor got really quiet and all I heard were the injectors. Is there any info I am missing? I understand that the K&N is not the best filter, can someone recommend one. Let me know, as I am as curious about the findings as everyone else is. Thanks again.

I must admit that I missed the Sb comment. Any idea how much? Elemental Sb is in the same semi-metallic group VB (periodic table of elements) as P, As, Bi. I can see it being an effect AW agent, but don’t know how it works as a multifunctional additive. Obviously they are relying on organics/amines for their beneficial effects as well – anti-oxidant/acid neutralizing.

I’m fairly certain that Sb is a catalyst poison……correct me if I’m wrong.

Anyway – knock off the leaded fuel for a few OCI’s (if you can) and see how your wear really is.

Leaded fuel was for the increased psi I was running, 28 psi on a stock turbo and 380 hp lead me there,no pun inteneded.

0W-20 was for hopes of decreased spool time, it works. Its lighter and there for less drag on the wheel of the turbo.

6000 miles, hmmm,I guess I was really trying what the manufacture of the oil recomendedbeing thathe had, had his ownexperiences that convinced me of this oils worthiness. ie. 150,000 miles on his 1985 vette and was only changing the filer every 3000 miles. Not to mention the receipts from Honda R&D and also AMG recentlyin the amounts of 500 gallons with repeat orders.

So no, I'm not trying to build engines every 3000 miles, but one would believe so if the whole picture wasn't drawn. I appologize if I haven't.

Terry has a company called Dyson Analysis located in Greenville TX. (Forum rules prohibit links to non site sponsers ) 8( He is used by many board members; he interprets UOA's and makes recommendations. He has literally saved many members engines.

I will let other elaborate on the benefits of using Terry. Check out his site

turns out Antimony is at 3750 ppm on info received on a 15W-40 sample and lead is 17. and zinc is 365 Ca is 2430. Is there anyone who can test Sb seperately?
