Looked like a full moon to me, and pretty bright. I always look outside, check the cars, street etc, everything was lit up well.

It was 4:30am on the east coast of Australia, but 2:30am on the west coast of Australia, so maybe after sun rise for NZ. I agree it was a very bright full moon, but when the eclipse started it got much darker in my yard (as you would expect).
