So I have a apple store gift card so my options are probably beats or air pods.

I actually like the earphones that come with (or came with) iPhones, so I think I would like AirPods 3rd gen. I wonder about the rubber tips on the pros.

Anyone have find AirPod pros fit like regular apple earphones or can be made to with the smallest tips?

I'm mostly concerned with the way the fit... and not having cords... though if i could be reasonably assured the Pro fit like the plebeian free ear phones that's what id go with...

The AirPod Pro now come with 4 tips for a better fitting plus there is a fit test involved using the inside and outside microphones.

If they don’t fit you or you have other reasons to not like them you can return them.

I have Sennheiser pods and they’re amazing. I couldn’t stand my previous buds that had the uncomfortable rubber nubbins…15 years ago. Things have changed. I’m sure the Apple offering is similar, if not better.

I like that I can pair these with my FireTV and watch my loud or scary shows without bothering anyone. The noise-canceling is a game changer and, if need be, a couple of taps on the right bud and the noise cancelling turns off. I believe Apple has similarly convenient touch controls.

Bonus: the mic is actually very good on modern buds. Makes being placed on hold a littler easier.

I bought some 1st gen Pro’s that were on sale after the 2nd gen came out. I like the way they fit better than the normal ones without the rubber tips, those kind of hurt my ears after awhile. The noise cancellation is wonderful when mowing the grass.

Wife has AirPods Pro, she is petite since they come with multiple tips the smallest are fine for her.
For fun she has tried both regular AirPods and the standard Apple earphones. She felt the Apple earphones and regular AirPods were uncomfortable over time but really liked the standard Apple sound in the free earphones

As someone else posted the noise reduction in the pros is stellar with a good fit. I laugh to myself because I can be talking and she can’t hear a word I say.

With all the above said she did order aftermarket Comply memory foam tips for a more secure fit and very happy with them. She felt like one pro was a bit too loose and may fall out but in the time she used it before new tips it never did.

Actually it’s seems she has had the same experience as Skippy posted. She us very happy with the pros and fir what it’s worth she is kinda like me with sound and video, it’s got to sound perfect.

I personally have tried two models of Beats in the past, one was the first gen of the small beats without the wings now around $99, the sound was good enough but I couldn’t get them to stay in my ears, blame that on one of my ears.

I also tried Powerbeats pros with the clip that wraps around the ear, they were pretty darn good, but still over a period of time they wouldn’t seal good. I did like them a lot.
So both were returned and my go too are large Bose QC and Sport Buds.

I think you will like the Apple Pros and heck you can always return them if it doesn’t work for you.
If I did everything all over again I might be tempted for the Pros to try but the tips of the Bose are one of a few that will stay put in my ears consistently as one ear must be a little abnormal or something lol

@andrew_j @alarmguy - Thank you, that's what i was looking for.

Ive got a number of pairs of inexpensive ear phones, the only pair i have with rubber tips i can stand are some Altec Lansing Nano Pods i got free. They are super fiddely with connecting though.

Probably give the AirPods Pro a try if i can at least exchange them if i don't like them.

Take this with a grain of salt, but if it makes you feel any better I’m not kidding when I say we have gone through. I don’t know at least seven pairs of earbuds over a couple of month period for myself a while back.. Some places I have purchased whatever brand at the time was from target, Best Buy, and Bose, JBL
Just check the return policy, but we always got for refunds. I think it’s accepted in the industry that earbuds can be very specific to a persons ears and that’s why the easy return policies. I really enjoyed it so much I would try different earbuds for the heck of it and return them, sometimes a couple brands at one time
I’ve tried so many brands. I can’t remember all the names, Sony, JBL, a few Jabras always were given refunds and kept the ones mentioned.
Once I wear out all the pairs I have I too want to try a round of the AirPod pros that my wife has but I think I got a while to go ha ha
They do sound good as the Bose QCs do too

I've been looking into getting some kind of sound system for the gym. The music they play on the overhead is abysmal. I've never had earbuds and I have nothing to power the earbuds. I was thinking maybe an iPhone 7 might be good enough to power the earbuds. I was thinking maybe the custom molded earbuds would be the best for long term comfort, but I don't know what the sound quality would be.

Apple is full retail buying directly but has a very generous return policy . I believe 15 days of package intact, I returned my air pod pros no issues.

By way of update.

A couple of days ago i picked up some AirPods pros.

The software is as expected fantastic, the connect immediately to all devices and are not fiddled at all.I currently have two different tips on them and am am more or losses satisfied with the fit.

The spatial audio set up was interesting, kinda hard to hold your head straight and follow the instructions on your phone around the ear... It also doesn't seem to work on my Mac. (the spatial audio part.)

The noise cancelling is fantastic, i actually thought the space heater went off, then i realized it was the air pod cancelling it.

I leaning toward keeping them.
