I like getting up close to loud fighter jet demonstrations and firewroks every now and then. It's only once a year. I use to as a kid out in a rural area set off fireworks for days on end and my dogs didn't care a bit. What would they do if it's thundering?

I guess soon we will be able to watch precision aerobatics put on by the military's Fighter Drones.

My dogs do the same for thunder. Freaks the poor things out. They want to dig a hole in the carpet and bury themselves under it. Fortunately, in the northwest we don't get a lot of thunder or lightning. Don't get me wrong (if you were addressing me that is), I love aircraft. Fighter jets especially. I don't live next to any airshows so I have no idea what my dogs would do. I do live very close to a drag strip though and those dragsters are VERY loud on some weekends. It's odd, but my dogs don't seem to mind that noise. Just explosion sounds.

Ah no I was mostly just confused how an air show at some distance could bother anyone or dogs. I just never had a dog that was bothered by noise off in the distance.
I agree that people constantly setting off fireworks in the suburbs could get annoying.
Did anyone familiar with flying see the crash video? It's not been determined but it looked like pilot error. The plane dived really low and started to do a roll. I never seen anyone do that before? It's too bad.

Wasn't there something in the news about the sequester a while back that indicated the cuts will be made where people notice them the most. Well there we have it. I have been a regular airshow attender since the early 80's and always enjoyed looking at the end products that i contributed to, see what my taxpayer dollars purchased, and speaking to the fine people that serve this country.
Yeah me too. I wonder just how much is really saved by ending the military air show participation. In comparison to the budget probably an insignificant amount. Or even if you consider the size of the audiences in the millions probably, not much is saved compared to what it provided per capita in entertainment and an ad for recruitment.
I realize just operating the jets costs quite a bit, but the biggest expenses have already been realized. The equipment and demonstration teams and the support staff that are mostly salaried and are still going to retained are still funded. Probably a miniscule drop in the bucket is being saved by not operating the air shows.

I've just complained about the cost, being held far away from me now and on what's usually the hottest weekend of the year, and not being held on a military base which there's one nearby the Dayton airport. And worst of all that the military wasn't even going to be there this year.
But I'm going to stop complaining about the cost. The air show has more private performers and they need to be paid. At least you get what you've paid for with them as opposed to the gov

I watched the video many times. The plane was flying inverted, and it almost looked like the pilot dove "up" (which was really down) instead of "down" (which would have really been up). Sad story; at least they both died doing what they loved to do.

Yeah I thought it was strange to fly inverted that low. I didn't watch the video much but as I recall it looked like the pilot was contemplating doing a roll or started to maybe to get up right. It looked like he was going too low and maybe too slow. Did he have enough lift? Or is it possible he just disoriented and confused?
The pilot was 64. I think that is a little old to be doing stunt flying not that I know much about it.
