I go 8-10k and use a MC air filter since I can get em' for cost at my work.

Did you check the engine air filter ? I think it is probably cleaner than cabin filter.

I like to have my cabin filter changed every year and the air filter every 6 months. Since both my cars are still under warranty the dealership makes the final decision wether I like it or not.
