In my 99' Altima, I've been putting in a fram air filter, but I notice the paper gets dirty and black pretty fast, since we don't drive it much.
Is there a better filter than fram, like Purolator, or should I get a K&N next time it's on sale?

Any filter will turn black fast if driven in dusty conditions. Fram makes very good air filters. I use Fram air fliters on both of my cars.

If I tried one filter and it got dirty and black, and another filter that stayed clean. I would use the one that gets dirty and black.

I agree the filter that turns black is doing its job and the seal is probably working well. I think Fram air filers are one of the best in fact they are almost identical to the Mopar filters I've been using.

Two thumbs up for Fram AIR filters.

Their "Sure-drain" system appeals to me, too.

i tried it, make sure u buy a hose clamp for the hose...i've had mine fall off a couple of times.

My Nissan dealership hates Fram. A good number of MAF problems they have had were were with cars that had a Fram air filter in the airbox. No problems with the OE oiled paper filters you get from Nissan. I'm sold on OEM stuff.
