Aftermarket hood struts/shocks?

No idea who makes "the best".

That said, installed "Strong Arm" hood struts on a 7th Gen Accord several years ago. Completely satisfied, both performance and price. Replaced the Honda OE.

Stabilus, Strongarm, Monroe, and there are other name brands that are fine. I’ve got URO brand on my Volvo now for a hood lift. Be careful with “no-names”. I did buy some RockAuto wholesaler closeout hatch struts (no name whatsoever) for the Odyssey van and had to return them as they “chattered” when lifting and lowering (they had enough lifting force, but they did not smoothly operate…very annoying).

Whatever you do, don't get the Autozone Mighty Lift brand. I have replaced them 5 times on a vehicle, they last about 2 years. Autozone dropped the lifetime warranty on them (if bought new today) but fortunately I have scans of the receipts stating lifetime warranty so I just keep getting them replaced under warranty... only takes 30 seconds to swap them out, otherwise I'd buy some other brand.

When the OE Stabilus struts were worn out to the point where they would not support the hood except at full extension (and iffy even at that point), I replaced them with another set of OEM Stabilus struts.

A few years later, they've weakened to the point where they will securely hold, but lack the pressure to lift the hood without assistance. Same expereince with a set of trunk struts.

Somewhat disappointed that the replacements didn't have the same durability as the originals, which to my recollection didn't weaken so quickly.

Put a pair on my dad's '06 Ram...the hood on that thing is a beast. Bought them off Rock Auto for dirt cheap. Been holding up great for nearly 2 years now.

Sachs/Stabilus hood struts seem to be the best and are often the OE supplier, too.

Sachs and Stabilus are the same company
Last time I ordered a Sachs part #, they sent Stabilus

This time I ordered Stabilus (different part #) and they mailed Stabilus

I compressed it one time by hand, it's now permanently collapsed, and cannot be extended

I'm buying another brand, that's strike 2

And trust me, I'm no strongman

I installed the Stabilus supports in Feb of 2021. They were made in the U.S.A and seemed well made. If I have any trouble with them I will report back but at this point I am happy with them.
$31.53 for two, with shipping.
