It arrived today! Thankfully this time, it actually IS the right model! haha

It was funny because I just called AFE for the tracking number and as soon as they gave it to me and I put it in on UPS's site the doorbell rang. So that was nice :)

Construction is again, amazing. Installing was a little bit snugger then the OEM filter, but that is a GOOD thing. It seals very well around the outside. It by no means was hard to install, it was just more snug in the box then stock.

I will see later once I take my car out for a spin if I notice any changes, or if the placebo effect will kick in, haha. I will also see if I have any increase in mileage in the next few weeks which I record very closely, although unlikely.

I ordered mine at ultimatetruck.com, geat customer service, fast with emails, and cheaper than ordering directly at aFe.

If they don't have it, they will order it directly to aFe for you and it will be sent directly from aFe to you, not through ultimatetruck.com.
 
I originally ordered mine through autopartswarehouse.com and they totally butchered the order.

Then the return process was an absolute mess and had to call them over and over, talk to some people who barley speak english and try to make them understand it was THEIR fault my order was wrong. So I had to explain to them I am entitled to the item cost, shipping, and return shipping costs. Finally, they "got it" and I had to fax them all kinds of information and receipts and yet, they still forgot to process the original shipping costs... But I think it is FINALLY taken care of after 2-3 weeks. A mess. Don't order from them.

Basically what happened is I ordered the filter that came up with my model/year on the website and they sent me a filter for the 2008 Scion xD, not the xB. Totally different filter. My order was correct, they just processed it wrong. So they put up a fight for some reason...

Anyway, AFE matched the price I paid from APW without a problem and ended up costing the exact same, so it's a much better way to go IMO, you just wait a little longer for it if its not in stock and they have to make it.

Same thing with ordering one off eBay.

I emailed ultimateruck for shipping cost since last week and to-date no reply. Though ultimatetruck offer cheaper price but I think would be better to order from AFE to avoid all hassle.
 
Had my filter in for a few days now. First off, I want to say the construction again, is amazing. Perfectly built.

Fit snuggly into the airbox making a great seal.

Performance wise, the car *feels* like it has a little more power in the higher RPM's the times I floored it. No difference at lower speeds or anything, but that is expected. Most likely allowing greater airflow when it needs it, therefor it feels a bit more refined.

Excellent filter!
 
Just ordered the ProDryS for my Tacoma though a group buy at TacomaWorld.com forum. Many happy users there. Got mine for a LOT less than what it can be ordered for from a distruibutor. I am hoping for a slight boost in the breathing of the engine and some folks are reporting between 1 and 1.5 MPG increase over several tanks of gas. When new plain filters run at least $15, and you figure in the reuseability and the long life, this was a no-brainer.
 
Not initially, it becomes more efficient as you pack on the miles. I went from a 13 PPM silicon at ~3,000 miles to a 5 PPM at 6,000 miles and down to a 3 PPM at 9,000 miles.
 
At last, the dry pro drop in filter arrived and got it installed in my FIT. My observations after a week, Take off (low end) no difference but experience slight improvement in the mid end range
above 100kmh. Hopefully filtration is getting better after prolonged useage. So. do I stand correct to say that don't bother to clean the filter if you want better filtration but with dirty filter will affect fuel economy. What do you guy think of.

I changed the Pro Dry at 12,000 miles. It looked pretty clean then. I tapped it on a paper towel to see if there was any junk in it. There was some fine sand, that was about it. I think that this filter will filter longer than a paper filter before getting too clogged. It really has to be clogged before affecting fuel mileage, keep tabs on your MPG, change the filter if you see it drop off.

I think the airflow will start to be restricted compared to a brand new filter. Because the filter has a greater air flow capacity to begin with, this should not be a problem. It will deliver more air than you're engine is capable of consuming.

The fact you don't have to oil the filter is turning out to be a huge plus. Just take the filter out, give it a quick vacuum, reinstall.

I just cleaned and oiled my AFE...even after letting it sit for two days to get rid of any residual oil it still got oil all over the place. So im waiting for the Pro Dry to come.
 
When you oil a gauze filter, oil only the filtration side and use quick sweeping passes, don't overlap, and don't then start worrying and spraying even more and more. Any area that was barely missed will get oil to bleed in. If you're careful, all it takes is about 3 or 4 very quick passes one way with the spray can for a panel filter. That's all it takes.

X2,,,if you're careful there is no mess and it is much more effective on a high efficiency filter (like Proguard 7).
