i found out thats its not the oil from the filters but the contaminent from using impure oiling from the factory...afe uses pure food grade oil for their filters...thats the reason ford company here goes with afe for their diesels..they are showing no contanminent at all on their maf sensors..and alot of racers turbo chargers use afe they can stand alot of high flows

I think I read that AFE makes TRD washable filters? I put one on my Corolla and it seems perfectly fine. Good to hear that they do the job right from the beginning of the process!

Not really...

Oiled air filters are not "bad". It's making and applying oil badly that is bad.

When oiled air filters are made and maintained properly, they are excellent.

Very true!

I saw a filter company that actually includes a little plastic squirt bottle of oil specifically measured for one treatment for that specific part number filter. That is a great idea to keep people from over oiling.

It's hard to not keep adding oil until the holes you can see light through dissapear.

I've seen more over oiled gauze filters than properly oiled gauze filters. There should be more emphasis and better instructions on oiling the filters in the instructions, at least better than the K&Ns I bought 8+ years ago.

I totally agree with the above. Oil the back side after cleaning and drying. then let it sit for a few hours to migrate into the other layers. The front side is the most important (twards the outside air)

Air Raid filters look to be better built with more cotton gauze than K&Ns. Essentially, short of those really really cheesy filters you find at auto parts stores, ANY other cotton gauze filter is better constructed than a K&N from what I've seen.
