Hi,

My GF has a 94 acura integra. It has 163k, runs strong, gets good MPG, and uses NO oil.

The problem is that the transmission / clutch sucks.

The clutch does not have a 'range' of engagement. In my two MT cars, I can let the clutch out slow and feel the clutch point, but still have some travel of the pedal before the clutch is actually fully engaged, where the parts rub but arent fully 'connected'. In the integra, the clutch is almost on/off. At slow speeds, it is impossible to let the clutch out and start smoothly. I could let it out milimeter by milimeter, and breathe in burning clutch smell for a long time, and it still would clunk hard before it was engaged. It is easier and smoother to let it out in the higher gears and higher speeds, but still not as it should be.

The shifter is NOT notchy, using honda MTL; it works well. There is no grinding ever. I have to think that the synchros are fine, as otherwise id hear grinding or have issue with getting the transmission into gear.

At certain times, mainly at slow speeds, if one lets off of the throttle and then presses back down, the car will buck violently back and forth, despite constant pressure on the throttle. I have to wonder if this means the flywheel is slightly warped, and sometimes the clutch does not quite sit on it right?

The clutch does not slip in use. Heavy throttle application, hills, etc., all go fine with no sign of slippage. Moreover, the car had the clutch done about a year ago (by a honda dealer). It didnt help, and they gave the stupid 'could not replicate' answer when we took it back a few times. We are no longer in the area to pursue it. The clutch pedal has about 1/2-1" of play, and the clutchpoint seems to be just past that area of play. Ive tried adjusting it, but couldnt get it to turn to adjust. So I left well enough alone.

I have to wonder if someone used honda civic or crv parts in the integra, as apparently they are relatively intercahangable, since these vehicles are all related.

So, the car bucks when the clutch is engaged (sometimes), the clutch engages with a clunk all the time, there is no range of let-out, but the transmission overall works fine and the car gets 31 mpg.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

JMH
