Advanced Full Synthetic

I believe Valvoline Extended Protection has more moly and detergents - I view it as more of a GDI synthetic engine oil for normal OCI's .

It doesn't have the TBN reserve to go crazy long drains.
We might be seeing a TBN reformulation with new oils where less is more. I've noticed an overall trend where TBN is going down. Supertech Advanced Full Synthetic quotes 20k intervals but has 7.5% less TBN than regular 10k interval Supertech Full Synthetic (7.4 vs 8.0)

Mobil 1 vanilla is also labeled as "advanced full synthetic" oil, has been for a very long time. I believe the word "advanced" is marketing jargon here. M1 vanilla is rated up to 10,000 miles, depending on manufacturer's recommendation.

It's actually guaranteed for that interval outside of OEM warranty unless the OEM interval is longer, in which case the guarantee is for the longer OEM interval.

I will try this out on my next OC. I figured it’s only $1.50 more than the HM so why not. Two of our Vibes and a Highlander are all “Severe Duty” considering the constant short trip/stop and go throughout the day. I hope the Advanced still has all the HM additives. These all have pretty high miles.

Yes pretty much marketing. However, some brands have more than one tier of synthetic oils, e.g. Mobil 1 advanced synthetic vs Mobil super synthetic. In this example there is a significant difference between the oils. It might sound confusing for non-enthusiasts, but the most important thing is that the oil meets the spec and viscosity required for your car, which is actually pretty simple.
