i've got 4 qts of 5w20 conventional in my 2008 caliber, 18600 mi, for 1 year.

i drove all year a total of 1500 miles, all highway. oil still nice and clean looking and i'm going to wait until August to change.

So the car has a total milage of 18,600 and the oil has 1,500 miles on it Correct? no worries then.. change in Aug.

Change the filter, remove wear metals an other contaminates.
Use a good quality oil filter.
Pure 1 . Wix etc.

So you're suggesting his oil filter needs to be changed every 1,500 miles of easy hwy driving? Sounds a bit excessive to me...

Common sense folks at least change the filter once a year, oil an oil filters are cheap !
Changing a filter removes wear metals and other contaminates.

With only 1500 miles on the oil, even though it's been a year, IMO he'll be fine. Changing the filter at this point would be a waste of time and money.

But how much wear metals and other contaminants will an engine produce in just 1500 miles of hwy driving? IMO, not much. And they are safely trapped in the filter media and not doing any harm.

And if your engine does produce a lot of wear that's big enough to be trapped in the filter and clog it in 1500 miles, you've got other serious issues there that need attention.

I think he should change it once a year at least .I've seen engines that didn't get used much and only had an oil change every 3000 which could have been two years. The insides were never that clean.

I'm not sure I'd agree with it. It all depends on a particular oil and how the chemicals in it react to heat.

Thats cool. I disagree with you as well. Its all about cleaning additives and suspension properties. Cheap oils are cheap because they lack expensive additives.

Gentlemen- the caliber does not burn any oil, and runs like new. I run the car on highway (constant 55-60) 60 miles per weekend twice/month. no local driving. Oil gets hot enough to burn off any water etc. i have put 1600 miles on this oil and it still looks clean and smells good. i only use Purolator Classics.

I plan to go until August with this oil and filter.

Don't tell my vehicles that! Both are filled with Formula Shell that I bought for 2.29 a qt.

store brand is SAE certified. I don't drive this car hard...i feel like 1600 miles of all highway driving at constant speeds allows me to use the oil before prematurly dumping it.....
