I just managed to get a stash of PP 5W30 and about a dozen Advance Auto Total grip AA2 (for Ford modulars). I am in the process of doing an autopsy on one for a Chevy vs a Purolator white can. So far, it looks like Purolator makes them for Advance Auto. I am still in process of pictures and measurements. I am also going to get a OCOD and a ST tomorrow for comparison.

Anyone know if Purolator makes the AA filters? Seem to be stout, but I have not seen them on the shelves at AA for a few months in my area.

I think I am becoming a BITOG'er.... I am doomed...

Those things were being closed out about a year ago.
I'm surprised you found any.
Good score!
I've used the red can in both the Accords and the Aerostar.
I have had no issues with them, and they are really easy to remove-never need a wrench.
I've got a few left.

There's been lots an lots of threads on them. Original price $2.88 sometimes went on BOGO which was a deal. First closeout price $1.45 a deal, final closeout $0.95 a steal. Many a Bitoger frequenting the promo board scarfed them up. Got about 5 left myself.

Purolator made, slightly less media than the then Prem. Plus. A lot of filter for the money.

Here's some cut open pics. http://home.earthlink.net/~cewhite3nc/id6.html

My "former" Brother In Law had a bunch. After he walked out on my Sister, She said I could have pretty much everything in the garage, except her car

I grabbed 6T Rhino Ramps, sockets, Oil Filters, Oil, 3 ton floor jack, etc. Had a price though... Had to help Sis throw out his other junk and take to landfill.

I wish I could've gotten some when they closed them out. I was at my local AAP when they were moving them behind the counter. They told me that if I ever wanted some, I could go there and they'll continue carrying them. I went back about a month later and they said they no longer carried them and I couldn't get them behind the counter like they previously said. I would've bought all I could if they put them on sale, but I'm assuming they just sold them to commercial accounts. I have only one left, and it's unfortunately dented.

That was the plan, not sure why they decided to discontinue them

Thanks for the links and input guys. I also had a CarQuest filter in the mix. I know those are made by Wix like the Napa Golds. I figure I can use these in my FIL explorer (4.6L) they are shorter than the FL1A M/C's.

Thanks again,
Dave

Flaky red paint in the oil side/surface of the filter, had tons of complaints i guess.

i scored like 30 of them for .95 cents, good filters equivalent to Naps pro select,Carquest red and pourolator plus.

They were a popular Bitog filter. When they went on BOGO they were a very popular. Texture was popular with many.

IMO, the reason they were discontinued were several. They were a very close direct competitor to the Puro Prem. Plus filter, only less expensive. They had texture which the new P1 was going to, and that would make the P1 unique in the Purolator line.

And, AAP was going to replace the TG with PowerFlo's for the commercial accounts. But, it seems that the PowerFlo's can now be had by individuals, and are also very reasonable.

I doubt it, I bet they discontinued them because of the new PureONE coming out. They didn't want their lower-tier filter with a grippy surface to compete with one of the selling points of their premium filter.

True,but thats what i heard.

Maybe some customers stocked up of AAP filters during the BOGO sale and AAP corporate saw that oil filter sales were flat for the following few months.

I think AAP realized their brand oil filter was hurting them.
