Although this has a textured grip all over the entire can, it has an orange color, and uses Fram part numbers---this is a PUROLATOR Plus #20252!
Also, the price was a buck less than the Pep Boys PROLINE which has been marked up in price lately($3.28!), for $2.28.

This topic is about Advance Auto Filters.
In this particular application, the Fram #2870 and the Purolator #20252 are the same size, as is the Bosch, K&N or Wix. These are not at all small filters, and there is only one size indicated here.
As to FRAM numbers sizes being different, I found no noticable size difference between those and say, AC Delco.

The amount of media in a filter has little to do with its exterior dimentions.

Do not judge size until you have cut one open.

But a bigger filter can will allow you to run more oil, which presumably would make your engine run a bit cooler the oil last a bit longer.

But your point is well taken

Um, I have cut open the filters and the sizing was dramatically different with the large can and the fram sized filter.

Fram 3593 ~100
Advance 3593 ~110
SuperTech 3593 ~120

Purolator Premium L24458 ~180

Again, these are all the manufactuers recommended filter for my particular car.

If the Fram sizing is identicle to the stock sizing, then it probably most likely very similer. However, mine is not and I pointed that out.

all exact info is a http://www.bergware.net/tmbwww/oilfilter89honda.html

I have the Advanced Auto FL820S equivalent on one of my 4.6L Ford engines right now. I agree it is definitely a Purolator.

I haven't cut one open but my only negative observation is that the filter canister is VERY thin. I could easily (much easier than any other filter I have ever used) dent the canister with my thumb.

I like the rough paint. Makes it easier to get on and off by hand.

It has been on the car for about 2K miles now with Castrol GC 0w30

@Thomas Pyrek

If I understand you correctly now, you are saying that for your application, the Fram was a smaller size canister and media than the other brands were?

@Ssmokin

What is interesting, is that although it's made by Purolator, Purolator doesn't sell a textured paint can in it's regular branded packaging yet.
Also, the box says "compare to Fram" and gives it that orange color! My guess is that advance thinks Fram is more popular than Purolator!

I would guess that Fram is the number one seller (due to advertising) so they probably want to compare their product (house brand) to Fram.

I always see people in the stores going for the Frams. I just smile to myself and think -- great more of the good filters for me!

Not quite.

Fram specifies the same size for all Honda's, the 3593. In reality the real size is 1/3" wider and 3/4" taller or so.

In order to show a 'fram similar product' a bunch of companies make a filter in the 3953 dimensions without making the correct size for my car because fram decides to do a 'catch all' honda filter.

I was also showing the size of the filter media to show that not only does the bigger can have alot more media, but even in the same physical dimension, fram will consistantly use less media.
