Hey there, I purchased a oil change bundle at advance auto and thought I try Advance Auto new Argos 0W20 synthetic oil, The reason I purchased the bundle was because I wanted to try Car quest extended performance oil filter and of course save some money.

Funny I just ordered some of the Fram 15W40 that was supposedly ~$14 per gallon (not a great price but better than SuperTech) and they substituted the Argos. I didn't get a PayPal notification that any changes were made, so I'm assuming they didn't adjust the dollar amount.

I usually go to Walmart and buy oil and filters, My go-to oil filter was super tech 6607. I needed oil and a filter so I couldn't beat the bundle deal.

There's a few fram filters at my local Walmart and 15w40 oil.

Thanks for posting. I had to Giggle it:

"ARGOS motor oil is manufactured by Amalie Oil Company, one of North America's largest independent oil blenders, for Advance Auto Parts. Launched in early 2026, ARGOS is a private-label brand designed for value-conscious consumers and professional installers, available exclusively at Advance Auto Parts and Carquest locations."

I believe Amalie also makes O'Reilly's house oil as well. Likely the same stuff.

This brand of oil is new. I am sure the Carquest filter is solid. For a chain auto parts store the bundle price of $29.67 might seem like a good deal, but note that there are any number of cheap jugs of branded synthetic "Dexos or better" oils on Amazon between $20 and $25, including Castrol, Valvoline, Quaker State and many others. Kirkland will sell you two jugs for a scoshe over $30 every so often. The price of filters depends on the application and the filter you want. I grab with both fists when I see low prices... any filter sub $6 or even sub $5 has my attention.

My point is that the chain store bundle price is maybe not that low, considering unheard of oil. Generally speaking, these chain parts store bundle something good with something shaky, and overcharge.

Appreciate the information, The oil should be good for 5,000 mile oil changes...
Thanks 👍

Amalie is a reputable source. It’s API and Dexos labeled so this isn’t some fly by night situation. I’d have no issue using in an application suited for a budget oil. I doubt you’ll be any better or worse off with Supertech, Fram, STP, O’Reilly’s or any other store brand.

So the Carquest filter, I am sure you bought a second filter to cut apart and examine its quality? Synthetic media? Silicone ADBV?

What does "extended performance" really mean?

$16.99 would be a lot for a house brand filter.

From the AAP website:

  • High-flow full synthetic media
  • Hydrogenated nitrile gasket for extended performance

It's a house brand oil so while full synthetic it's probably not better nor worse than NAPA full synthetic. But it's no Amsoil or HPL. Myself I avoid bundles and like to choose my oil and filter separately.

But I am only anal about the oil for my F250 PSD and not the (wife's Crosstrek). Mainly because I don't have $80K for a new pickup.
