I'll give another factoid:

This copolymer is very sticky.

Glue.

Used as glue, gluing this, gluing that, and gluing the other thing.

Somewhat more serious, the stickiest stuff I know of is the lubricant sold for urethane bushings (car suspension), like what Energy Suspension includes and sells. A good second is Shin-Etsu, made in Japan, for window crank mechanisms. You can buy Honda branded Shin-Etsu or just get the real deal. It stays where you put it for ... well ... 20 years, but still lubricates.

Different ratios of ethylene and propylene can produce various copolymers for various applications.

Olefin CoPolymers (OCPs) have been used as Viscosity Index Improvers and in OTC oil thickeners.


Tackifiers are specialized ethylene and propylene copolmers with an enhanced stickiness.


Takifiers can be used in Bar and Chain oils, Greases, and Gear oils to provide that enhanced 'tack.'

How do they handle high heat?

How do they handle EP?

In any finished lubricant each chemistry component does it own job or jobs, depending on whether it is a Mono-Functional or Multi-Functional component.

Takifiers stay tacky regardless of heat.

For gear oils and greases, An EP component or agent works that issue.


For Bar and Chain oils, an anti-wear component such as ZDDP handles that job.
