Just curious... I've been running the stated 6oz. of Auto Rx, prior to a complete fluid change. Pan, filter, T/C, and cooler lines.

What if I added another application to the virgin ATF, post drain and fill? Keeping it in for around 20K, before next flush?

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure I asked Frank about a maintenance dose for auto trans, and he said it wasn't needed. I'd imagine this would be the same as doing 2 cleans, and that you should flush after around 1000-1500miles.
Maybe he will chime in with more info.

04SpecV you are correct. Do not add a maintenance dose of Auto-Rx in any amount to the transmission. Just do the clean and then do a complete fluid change. Then before you do your next change fluid change, do your clean again adding the 6 ounces. I asked this question about 2 years ago and it has not changed. Good question though.

ULVER, what did you decide for your ATF, more RP?

Actually no... I've had no issues with it at all. However, when Aamco starting carrying their own line of products (and Walmart/AZ/other), a friend that works for them, scored me a free case of Aamco Mercon V .

Although I believe a true synthetic, is always better than a partial, in this case there was one other issue: The Mercon V contains certain friction modifiers, unique to the probs our Panther platform cars were seeing. Namely shudder.

I was curious, to see, if I noticed a difference. I'll report back soon, as taking her in for the change shortly.

FYI-the Aamco ATF os made by Exxon-Mobil. I would think of excellent quality.

What is the reason for NOT doing a maintenance Dose on an Auto transmission?

Hammer,

I am going from memory on this, but it is because the transmission does not have the combustion by products that the engine receives. Also the factory filter in a transmission is very poor in most cases.

I'll give you that on the factory filter but what if you add an external filter such as a Magnefine which filters out a lower micron of stuff plus has the magnet to pull ferrous particles. Or even the external filter sold by dieselsite.com. I would think a small dose of Auto-rx would increase the dispursment ability of the ATF to help carry the garbage to the mentioned external filters instead of fouling up the shift solenids and such. Does this make sense? I mean, I'd rather maintain a clean tranny than to have to auto-rx clean it every X-amount of miles when it starts gunking up again.

Hammer,

I do have an external FF on my 95 like the one Bob Riley sells. And I do use a 2 ounce maintenance dose. My 01 has the Magnefine and I also use a 2 ounce maintenance dose in it. I did not post that because without that type filter being used then I agree with Auto-Rx, don't use a maintenance dose in the auto-trans.

So if you added a full flow filter to your Auto Trans, you could add a Auto-RX mainteance dose to it? Which would could help to make it last a REALLY long time?
Wow I'm really confused now

Yessss.....

I do remember now you mentioning the Aamco Merc V at our other site.

I love back door or off the truck deals.

Isnt Merc V always syn-blend.

Should be great stuff.

Is your Aamco friend doing the service too?

See if yall can cut open the trans filter afterwards!!!

Transmission fluid is a base fluid of hydraulic oil (very viscious) it can only carry 6 ounces of Auto-Rx no matter how many quarts of transmission fluid unit holds. No maintenance dose is needed -no second cleaning is needed. Application instructions need to be adhered to. Remeber it is the torque converter that holds most of the trash and how you clean out the unit must include procedure to clean torque converter. www.auto-rx.net

Ok Frank, How about this then, I just put a new torque converter in my 4R100 behind my 7.3 PSD. So that TC shouldn't be buggered up yet. Since I use an external filter, I would think that a 1-2 ounce maintenance dose would go a long way to prevent the TC and solenoid pack from getting boogered up with garbage. What do you say?
