Adding a cheap quart in addition to 5qt/liter jug

I’m late to starting my own oil changes on my 22’ Tacoma (0w20). Now that warranty is up I’ll be doing them myself and am baffled by the price (Canada) of single quart or liter bottles of name brand oil. The big 5L jugs are always on a good sale (30-40$ cad) but it’s around 17$ in change for a single qt of Castrol Edge, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline or Quaker State Ultimate Durability. Super tech is 8.88, I see good things about it on here. Some would say just use Supertech all around I’m sure but is it wrong to add an affordable single qt of a different oil with the large jug of something else?
Car ownership is a lot more expensive than most people realize. It's worth tracking every maintenance and repair item on all your vehicles over several years to see how expensive it gets (tens of thousands of dollars spent on each vehicle for maintenance, repairs, gasoline, insurance, etc, etc, etc).

Using Super Tech High Mileage Full Synthetic oil and a Super Tech oil filter is a good starting point for a low cost oil change.

In my opinion, you can reach 300,000 miles on any Dexos 1 Gen 3 approved full synthetic oil (Brand is of no importance, and I just buy the lowest priced oil that meets that spec).

Not going to hurt a thing, add whatever single you have and drive on.

Mixing oils is just a very bad idea.
I’m not a chemist, but I do know some of these oils use different added packages.
Mixing these just does not seem like a good idea.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I was leaning toward the extra quart fo make sure I had empty bottles for used oil storage/return. I’m sure I could use a different container as I wait to empty the second jug, all common sense but thanks for listening!
I was about to suggest putting the used oil into an empty milk jug, then I remembered lol

Can you buy 6-quart boxes or just multiple 5-quart jugs and eventually use them up? Also, for the most part, if you buy oil that's on sale at the parts store, additional quarts of the same oil on the same ticket will get discounted to the 5qt price divided by 5...

I'm not a fan of mixing oil brands based on differing add packages. Will it kill your motor, no. Just pick a brand and stick with it for the term of your ownership. Buy 5 liter jugs for the change and have extra for top-offs and the future.

I'd also bump up to a 5w-30 weight. Yeah, you'll piss off some Bitogers but check the GM LS thread.

Most of the oil manufacturers say it's ok to mix oils of the same rating & approvals, you just might not get the benefits they advertise as unique or special to their oil. Pick any, like Mobil, Castrol.....and check their PDSs..

I do exactly this for a vehicle that takes 10.25 quarts. I’m not buying a single quart for the .25, so I top up using leftovers from a different vehicle. Get this, it’s even a different viscosity!
