I did just that, but have to be reasonable about pressures.

To make things more odd, AC was cool this AM, then refused to go below 60 when the outside got up to 90F. Now it's down to 84F, and it's blowing 44F again and is very cold.

Wonder if evap is freezing up...

I have a similar situation with my 2000 Century. My wife drives it the most and hates AC so for the time being I'm leaving it alone. I have a feeling it might be over charged. My father had a mechanic "charge it up" last July. I took the car in September and the AC was fine, but we didn't have the crazy heat like we've had this summer.

Have driven 37 miles at 84-85F and it's down at 40 F and cold.

Very confusing...

Maybe a bad expansion valve? It is the only thing metering flow into the evaporator, more flow=more cooling. So maybe it is sticking once the temp rises.

Edit: Apparently Rockauto does sell a parallel flow condenser.

Thanks! Yes expansion valve is my thought, though its 10 years old, I have to think that doesn't make a difference, but even with a full flush and all, the system is still a retrofit, so who knows if there is some long, slow side reaction gunning things up..,

I'd hate to dump a charge with it blowing 44 F pretty regularly now, but I also don't like 275psi.

Ya at this point if it really was an issue like we had the heat wave for a month I'd consider empty and fix.

Frankly it hasn't been bad lately so you may be able to put it off.

I wouldn't worry about the high side pressure, the compressor was designed for it. If it does leak at a weak point in the condenser upfront them well you have your reason to get a new one.

Any chance you have a dirty cabin air filter? No restriction on the condenser coil, ie. piece of paper sucked up? High head and low suction is usually a sign of a restriction of either air flow or in your metering device.
