But yes, Red Line is probably the best 'bang for the buck' boutique oil out there.

IF the lifters are going, NOTHING is going to actually save them in an LSx, save for pulling the heads and REPLACING THEM.

Also IF they are on their way out, and you allow them to fully disintegrate, you are looking at a WHOLE ENGINE rebuild/replacement, since they then jettison their needle bearings and other bits into the oil stream where they can do catastrophic damage in many ways/areas of the internals.

Besides, at that point, the clacking becomes such that people can hear you coming from 1000 yards away!
(Ask me how I know. )

I certainly would NOT add Bio-tech to Red Line motor oil, which already has a large amount of MoDTC and esters. True, different esters can behave very differently and the ones in the two products are different. I would bet that the net effect of adding the additive would be negative and it costs extra money. If you added it to basic non-synthetic motor oil, I would not be surprised if the net effect was positive. Knowing whether it was positive or negative is another matter...good luck with that.

GM themselves changed the spec for the high output engines from 5w30 to 0w40 so someone got something wrong somewhere at some point at GM. Engineers have little input in the viscosity of the oil spec'd for an engine unless it develops issues with lubrication.
That call is made primarily by fuel economy/emission geeks who probably don't know jack about a car never mind the engine, the only input the engine engineers have is yes it will run on that and get through warranty.

Anyone ever wonder about all this back spec and unbackspec is all about?
A long time ago Honda admitted as much and more but that article has long ago been purged from the web.
