ADBV required pressure?

I Never tested, but with pliable silicone rubber at STP likely around 1psi.

-30C, old nitrile and frozen with ice, likely MUCH higher.

My previous to last filter** in a NISSSAN application the ADBV was deformed OPEN in use, over time, so that didnt take much

Tough one to quantify. It's just a simple check valve, so all it needs is some dP across it, which it's going to have any time the oil pump is pumping.
 
psi means pound per square inch. The area of ADBV making contact with oil is perhaps about a square inch or less. I can't imagine it requiring a force of more than a fraction of a pound to bend the valve but you can get a feeling using your fingers.

So, it could be as little as 0.1 psi unless it hardened. Therefore, the pressure drop (Delta P) across the ADBV is negligible for all practical purposes and it adds little to the Delta P across the whole oil filter.
 
It is an impediment to "unrestricted" flow due to its geometry at open state. Its not a poppet pellet, its a flap with rising bending stress. Easy to quantify in a lab with an in situ mockup - but I cant here.

Again MORE of an issue with unknown quality Chinese rubber and -30C icy starts;
Or that 10 Y.O. NOS filter with a crumbly, near hard plastic ADBV.

Yes, as that implies, on most canister filters you can easily do an oral pressure check, for both forward and reverse (i.e., drain-back) flow. Pressure necessary to open the ADBV flap can vary with the age of the filter. When new, some brands used to require enough pressure to cause a problem with some cars, for example my brother's 1974 VW Dasher. On another hand, the forward opening pressure shouldn't be zero, either.
 
I thought that was the likely answer, just making sure as I've never dissected a filter to know how they're made. If a quality (i.e., Wix/Napa) filter is used and changed at least annually, should the ADBV stay in good enough shape to give a good seal and hold oil above it?

Designing an oil cooler/filter system for a motorcycle and needed to incorporate a check valve to keep the cooler core from draining back - then brainstormed that if I use a remote filter base and an ADBV-equipped filter, it would increase my oil capacity, cooling capacity, filtration, and give me the check valve I need all in one.
