I have a cooling fan not running, on the driver's side of my 1998 Acura CL 6cyl. I think it's for the A/C condenser. I am not familiar with electrical systems. How would I troubleshoot to see if it is the fan motor or a switch or relay? I'm seeing the temp gauge swing up when idling in traffic, but I haven't overheated yet (knock on wood).

Start by unhooking the electrical connector to the fan to see if it's getting power.
Trace your fusebox, usually there's one under the hood, labelled with what does what. Pull the relay and look for another one with the same part number and pinout eg the horn relay and swap them.

Hot wire the motor to see if it works.
Just a + and a- wire to it's connector will test it.

a lot easier to just use a continuity tester.
steve - Are you kidding? Continuity? A puked fan motor can show zero to very high impedance.
Electrical problems can start to be be diagnosed from either end, or in the middle.
Testing the power to it, or the motor itself, is always good.

if the fan doesn't blow really hard then it is going out. mine did that...... the accord and cl are pretty much the same and both my fans have been replaced. i got them on e-bay for a good price---easy to swap out.
