I think the acetone in the gasoline myth is being perpetrated by the company that sells electric fuel pumps for cars....LOL.
In case you didn't know...the electric fuel pump that is in the fuel tank has the fuel flowing directly thru the electric motor so as to cool the motor. The gasoline flows directly around the armature windings. On those windings is an insulting varnish. Acetone will eat that varnish off and destroy the pump. Even a little harsh solvent like acetone , over time, will start to eat the insulation off, the pump windings start to short out, the pump looses capacity and draws more current due to the shorted windings which causes more heat, which degrades the windings more...well...you get the picture.
Don't put acetone in your fuel. Some idiot somewhere that started that nonsense about it reducing surface tension to release the energy of the fuel is laughing his *** off at all the people putting acetone in their tanks now.
If you have any idea of the turbulence inside the combustion chamber and how it works to atomize the fuel and creat a homogeneous mixture for combustion then the simple thought of acetone "helping" this is ludicrous.
If you do put acetone in your fuel please post back when your fuel pump dies and confess....LOL.
BTW....there are SO many variables in real world fuel economy testing that it is just about impossible to do. Seriously. You can try as hard as you want but there are just too many variables and too many things that you cannot control. It is hard to even repeat fuel economy testing on the EPA test on emission rolls inside a building where there is no wind and the temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc. is all controlled. For the kind of difference you would be looking for with something like acetone in the fuel it is pointless to even consider real world fuel economy testing. You just cannot find it.
