acdelco pf47

I looked up info on the acdelco oil filters and it seems Champion Labs makes "some acdelco's". Also champion is now using the ecore technology. My question is: when i go to the store and pick up a regular old acdelco pf47 what am i getting. is it an acdelco or champion produced filter. do it have this new ecore filter or not?

If it has a black cage inside, it's an Ecore. Most vehicles that use the PF-47 can also mount the longer PF-52. AC Delco filters are mid-level in quality & will get your vehicle to 300K with regular oil changes.... just like the dreaded Fram filters. The ones you want to avoid are the AC Delcos showing up at Advance Auto Parts. Those are Mexican-made & not authentic GM parts.

Back when I could find PF 1177's I found half agains as much media as STP, ST, Hastings, Purolator, and 3 times as much as a Fram. I would never look at anything else if I could find the oddball numbers I need. My 92 Grand Am never had anything except a PF 47 or PF 52.

How can you tell if its a non authentic GM filter? About a month ago I bought a few AC's,from Advanced Auto Parts, and have yet to use them.

how can it be sold as an ACdelco if it is not authentic?

What would the advantage be of using the PF-52 over the PF-47?

I have four ACDelco PF-47s in my basement right now. 2 are made by Champ, and 2 by Delphi (Formerly ACDelco.) Neither is an Ecore. The Delphi filters look different in the center tube than the old Champs, they have a black rubber sleeve inside partway down. I got the Delphi filters from a dealer. I think the stores sell mostly Champs, and sometimes the Mexican built ones.

PF52 is a little longer, but otherwise similar. In some applications that might be a problem. I suppose the PF52 has more media.

Of the two pf47's I have in the shed, one is an acdelco *duraguard* and the other is mexican made and does not carry the duraguard name. Im not sure which one I currently have on my truck. There is some difference in construction i.e # of holes, and the metal tube in the middle is different.

I wrote acdelco and asked the difference between the two but Ill probably just get ignored.

You guys are scaring with these Mexican filters. I just put a PF47 on the car today, and I can't find where it says MADE IN

anywhere. I Iooked all over the box and filter, nothing.

I never noticed before but Ac has at least 3 producers of their oil filters. I looked at the ones in the shed and you can tell what country it was made it by the box.

If it says Acdelco Duraguard it was made in the USA.
If it says Acdelco oil filter is was made in mexico.

There is no evidence that I can find that says works better than the other, but I do not like having so many producers for the same part. I just took em back and am now going to be using purolator pure one, which (if the data is correct) are amazing for 6 dollars.

If a filter made in Mexico is "Not Authentic" what about the cars and engines made there.

FWIW I bought an ACDelco air filter at the local Chevy dealer (for 15 bucks

) and it was made in Mexico. You'd think something made there would at least save the consumer a little $$$ instead of just flushing middle class jobs down the toilet. I'll look for an American made filter next time.

A mexico made filter is an AC made for it by Champion at its Mexico plant like STP, Valuecraft and ST. They may be different inside but Champion is the only big filter company sourcing most of its US product from there.

All the Champion products I have ever seen were made in America. I think filterguy says they doen't even have a plant in Mexico.

If a filter claims to be made by Champion in Mexico, it could be a counterfit.

I have seen plenty of Mexican made AC Delco oil filters at Auto Zone. Look at a AC Delco PF59 oil filter. Chances are it'll be made in Mexico.

The ST7317 is marked made in mexico and this is a champion labs product.

The ValueCraft oil filters from AutoZone are made in Mexico. I also noticed that a few SuperTech oil filters were made in Mexico.
