AC PF 52 Filter Weird Question

I changed the oil in my truck today and when I slipped the old PF52 back in the new filter box the top flap wouldn't close all the way down. The number on the box with the new filter is 19210286 and number on the outside of the old filter is 25171377. They are both PF52 filters and seems odd that the length of the filters would change. Does anyone know if AC filters changed manufacturers or something? What are they doing making the new filters shorter to save $$?

I think they are now made by Wix. Ecores are made by Champ. Both are out there...

I'm reserving judgment on whether or not they are great. The Ecore FAQ doesn't inspire much confidence:

Consult your owner’s manual for recommended change intervals. Our recommendation is 3,000 miles or 3 months.

3k or 3Months is the usual make us more money, I beleive it is Bill in Utah that has run them for 7500 miles and cut them open. The only real way to tell is run them, and cut it open for yourself.

I agree. Also great is a relative term, great compared to what? There are better filters out there.

Compare it to the other fiber end cap filters like the fram. It is Excellent compared to the fram, not great.

Just like any value priced filter, they serve the needs of just about anybody at a reasonable price. They're not going to cure the common cold or revolutionize the gold trading market.

I agree, I am not saying they are better than purolator PureOnes or anything, but for the price range it is good.

Keep looking at various places that sell AC filters. Like Walmart. Look in the back of the shelf. Often times things like oil filters are not rotated on the store shelves, and the older ones stay in the back. I've found 5 or 6 old style PF 52's recently.

Wal Mart was closing out some filters locally. They had two PF52's that were marked 2.97 but they rang up at .97 each. There were other AC filters there, so they might be closing all the old ones out.
