AC OIL FILTERS

Looks like AC Delco has a new filter number. The PF61. From what I have found out that this filter replaces the PF58. What I can't find is if this new filter has the ADBV in it. If the PF61 has the ADBV, why didn't they just use the PF59 instead of creating a new number.
Does anyone have any information about this?
BTW, when I cross referenced the PF58, PF59, & PF61 on Wix website, they all crossed to the 51522.

It might have a different filtering media. On one of the Corvette forums they suggest the PF46 (which replaces the PF44 in the Vette) has a better media in it.

Doing a Search, hence bumping up an ancient post. I have the old ST's off my wife's car (ARX cycle), it takes an AC PF-44 OE. Also have the longer AC PF-61 I just took off my dad's new Cadillac. Diameter and thread size looks the same, but...looking inside them, the ST has a rubber or silicone ADBV but the AC has a metal plate. I was told earlier that the Mobil 1 M1-206 Cadillac filter would be okay on my wife's 2.4L Grand Am. I'm not fully recovered from elbow surgery so I'm not quite up to hacksawing a couple of filters apart yet. I'm pretty sure the longer filter will fit but I'm saving the PF-61 to see. Any input if the PF-61 or M1-206 is okay to use in place of the shorter PF-44? Thanks.

You can definitely use the M1-206 in place of the PF44. I know this because my old 98 Formula called for the PF44, but I ran the M1-206 filter for over a year (until the Ultraguards came out, then I switched to the UPF58)

That PF-44 is about the size of a Dixie Cup, huh? On my wife's 4 cyl Pontiac the filter sticks out horizontally from the front side of the block and points toward the radiator but I think a longer filter should be able to fit in there.

Yup, the PF44 is very small! When I first laid eyes on it I knew right away that I wasn't going to run it on my 350hp LS1! Before I even took delivery of it I had already purchased a couple of longer oil filters for it!

I was referring to when I took delivery of my 98 Formula back in 1998.

I'm now hoping to get a C5 in 2006. Prices should be down nicely by then (hopefully in the very low 20k range-Canadian dollars that is)
