I understand that Champion labs makes AC Delco oil filters. This is all well and good. I would like to know if anybody has opened one and compared it to a supertech or STP. I understand that the STP and Super Tech filters are the same. The local nation wide auto parts store sells STP for 2.99 and AC delco for 3.59. Does the 60 extra cents (or 1.60 for Super Tech) buy me a better filter or only a name (AC delco)???

I was going to give you several links, but then I remembered there's a policy against linking on this forum, so...

Go to Google(tm) or any other search engine of your choice, and enter the words "oil filter study," and you should have several teardown reports on various filters at your disposal.

Hope this helps,

I opened an AC Delco PF1233 (champion made), and it had a filter area of 64 sq inches. Someone else opened the supertech model equivalent (ST4967 IIRC), and it had a filter area of 74 sq inches. So the filter media must be different between them, although I cannot say which one is better. They are identical in outside appearance.

SuperTech features a SYNTHETIC Media while AC Delco Duraguard Blue use a standard cellulose type.

Hence in this comparison ST wins.

K&N Performance Gold, Mobil 1, Purolator Pure One and AC Ultraguard (black one's) are also synthetic Media.

I will add AC Delco 'blue' is an excellent OEM filter which will hold its own on any maintained car GM or otherwise.
