AC Delco

What is the general consensus on the AC Delco oil filters?

Does AC Delco actually manufacture the filter or does someone else make them?

How do they compare to a Wix filter?

I'm considering the AC Delco for our second car (2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.8L Series II). I do a 3000 mile OCI with Havoline 5w30 conventional due to the frequent short trips.

Thoughts?

I dont like them because (most) of them are e-Cores, If i wasnt a crazzy bitogger, i would use them and never have a problem!

Find the ones without an "E" on them and they are good filters. They are called "classics." I buy them in bulk at rockauto. Good price and a quality filter.

some time ago I believe WIX made them they were a carbon copy to a WIX, same base plate, internals, everything.

They were also very simular to STP and super tech.

at one time.


However I think the E-Cores are better then most think.. E-Cores allow more FLOW.....
there is no metal tube with small holes in the way that could cause ristiction....

Perhaps G.M wants more FLOW over filtration with the newer engines.

and Im sure even the E-cores still filter dirt out of the oil.

Cheap shot....

Purolator has provided great, inexpensive filters for decades. I'm sure the aberration that we are seeing right now is just that, an aberration.


To the OP, AC Delco filters have proven serviceable across the board.

The E-core products haven't inspired any accolades, however. They are just ugly....

I just switched from using AC Delco for 15 years to Wix and haven't really noticed anything different. The E core ones just looked cheaper inside so I tried Wix one day. Of our 3 vehicles, my Silverado would be the first to let me hear if the filter was sub par. No complaints here.

I've used them quite a few times in the 2003 Malibu I maintain and would gladly use them again. Zero issues to report. I also don't mind the e-core design.

" Cheap shot" - Guilty as charged... I've been using Purolators for years and hope this gets resolved soon... I currently have one on my wife's car that I'm going to post up pics of once the oil change is completed later this month... hopefully with positive results.

Advance Auto has the classic AC Delcos. You can use discount codes online and pick up in the store. Last one I got was about $3. Good filter for that price, considering the other filters in that price range i.e. Tearolators and Tearolator knockoffs and OCOD.

AC Delco have been made by Champion Labs for a long time, 15+ years if I recall correctly. (I know at least 10, as I worked at a GM dealer and saw alot of them at the time.)
The Classics are a great filter for the money. The ecore's aren't overly impressive, but I used 6 or 8 I got on clearance at Walmart for $1.50. I cut them open after use and they all held up just fine.
If you can get them at a decent price, go for it.

I think they went E Core for better flow.

It's a plastic cage on the inside of the filter instead of the traditional metal tube.
