Long story short, my BIL and scored a deal on a 1994 Buick Skylark for $500 to share as a winter beater, only has 157,xxx km's/ 95,5xx miles on the odometer witht he 3.1 V6 and 4T60e overdrive tranny.
I'm doing all the maintenance on this thing including a full coolant flush and refill. My BIL picked up some universal AC Declo coolant (clear yellow color), and after flushing out all the old rusty-brown green stuff, I refilled with a 60/40 mix of this coolant and distilled water. Now after the fact I find out that this coolant is not recommended for this year of car? As it was AC Declo brand, I just assumed it would've been compatable but it looks like they want either old-school green or Dexcool.
I honestly don't know much about coolant other than mixing is a no-no (shouldn't be a concern as I did a full flush), but with this particular engine being notorious for intake gasket leaks, I'm now worried I might be damaging the engine by running this stuff.
Any thoughts or advice? If this stuff is indeed going to cause problems in the future then I'll mostly likey replace it, but i'm hesitant to waste good coolant and more $$$ if I can help it. The vehicle is sitting right now, so other than the intial run to get the air out of the system, the coolant hasn't circulated much.
