i couldn't find the answer to my question elsewhere here. are ACdelco filters any good or should i stay with wix and napa gold. the reason i ask is that ac delco are cheaper and in abundance. if it matters i have an 8.1 liter chevy engine with 83000 miles on it. thanks for the help

oh i also use M1 syn oil at about 5k oci

Well a 5,000 oil change interval would not push an Ac/Filter to its limits. Not the M1 oil either. You are throwing away good oil .Any dino oil will protect for 5,000 miles.

well i would normally use dino. but with all the cold snaps lately i use syn. and i like having the extra protection when hauling hay and horses, 10000 lbs in 80-110 degree weather in the summer

I personally prefer the silicone ADB valves on the WIX filters. Not sure about the Ultraguards or whatever they were called, but they seem to be all rubber on the Duraguards.

My wife and daughter have horses I can understand that you have no concern about saving $$$

That is a lot of weight, but that truck is designed for that. I think the ACDelco would be fine with M1 at 5k miles. Which flavor of M1 are you using?

First of all steve s. HA HA HA HA :-). Second to you nyquist. i have been using mobil 1 high mileage 10-30, but after a recent 2100 mile drive using 0-30 in a jeep liberty i may be using that. but more than likely just 10-30 probably high mileage. i can see down the oil fill hole and can see a little build up from the previous owner who used dino following the oil change indicator.

i have been thinking about the 5-40 here on the first of the month. i dont knowabut the 0-40 only cuz i have yet to see it up here in these parts, if i see it then it will probably be the 0-40. think i could run it with the acdelco filter for 6000.

I found the PF 1177 had half again more filer media as Purolator and other similarly priced filters. Nobody that runs WIX or NAPA ever seems to subject them to the discipline of the tape measure. With all the stuff that runs forever with the orange can of death, I really wonder about paying more than what an AC costs for Wix.

On an engine like that, yep.

Does it have an OLM? You may see deposits from the previous owner. Keep in mind that there are some service profiles that cannot be contained/remedied by more frequent service intervals. That is, you cannot stop the side effects, just manage the oil condition for continued use of the equipment for as long as possible under the insult.

If you're using it in a more favorable service duty, you should be able to use the OLM (if so equipped) without worry.

Otherwise, base your oil changes on the amount of fuel you process through the engine. Outside of real short trip usage, the severe duty assignment is used due to the mismatch between fuel and mileage, where mileage is the measuring standard. Taxi cabs run fully warmed a great deal of the time, but accumulate lower mileage (although very high) per gallon of fuel.

It boils down to time at full warm up vs. time warming up. If the ratio is high, longer oil/filter life. If the ratio is low or upside down, shorter oil/filter life.

I don't beleive that is true for all AC's. My ride takes the PF61 or Napa Gold 1522, they are def. not exact. It appears there must multiple makers of the AC's depending on your filter.
Here are the two for my vehicle:

Has anyone cut this style of AC Delco open?
