Changed the oil in a 1984 Chevy Caprice wagon. Had traveller 10w30 semi and replaced it with 10w30 coastal semi with Napa 1060. This was the easiest filter to cut open. Is rather nasty inside. Filter did its job. Engine is a 305 with 310k miles. I have seen the engine below valve covers. Is rather nasty inside.

1984=carburetor, plus 310K would mean a LOT of fuel dilution & carbon. Wonder how many cams it’s had? The ‘85 305 van I had bad lobes by 75K miles!
I know the oil pan has been off before. Timing chain was replaced couple years ago. Engine runs ok. Not much power.

I drove mine to the NW side of Chicago (Rockford) once-it literally couldn’t clear 70 unless I was drafting off someone!
This car has very tall gears. 0 to 60 is about 20 seconds. But it will cruise at 90. The carburetor is actually brand new. Put it on 3 months ago. Original kept stumbling. The carbs electronics are very finicky. Trying to tune I but ots gard to get them right. Most people get an older cars without all those stuff.

My 305 was just way, way too weak to power a full size (actually LD 3/4 ton) van. A 350 would have been a lot better, the 305 is really not a truck engine, at all. I had other 305s, in Monte Carlos & similar, and they were fine.
