I stopped by Autozone tonight and was looking through the wall of Champion oil filters. I was going to get a 1127 for our Hyundai. I looked at it about 5 months ago, and it had the Purolator style spring by-pass valve in the end.

Guess what... It now has the clicker style by-pass. Basically, all the Champion filters they had, had this clicker except the Mobil 1, and I'm not paying $12.00 for an oil filter.

I'm guessing that they have decided to go with this design, because it's cheap, and most people don't look in the hole of their oil filter, they just put it on. Why else would Fram be #1?

Yes, in an e-mail someone on this board received from Champion almost a year ago, a comment to the effect of "All our filters will be using the clicker valve" came up. It appeared this would also include Mobil 1, but perhaps not. But sure enough, it's hard to find AC 1127s with the coil spring valve any more -- they've all been sold off, replaced with clickers. Purolator, Wix/Napa Gold, and Baldwin all are good non-clicker options.
