ok, my car(94 Saturn SL1) calls for a PF53 filter. This filter appears to contain a bypass valve inside of it. Is there some slightly larger filter that could be used in this car that also has the bypass valve? The PF52 looks like it should fit but I was reading in another thread that the 52 does not have a bypass valve. Is there some spec sheet somewhere that says the threads, diameters, and lengths of these filters and whether ot not they have bypass valves?

SAABs use PF-53 too. The bigger filter approved for them is PF-13. It's actually in the catalog. I am not sure if this also applies to Saturns. PF-13 is much larger!

hmm, are these ACDelco filters at least prety good? It has some mass to it.

are you sure the PF-13 will work on there? I've not seen anything anywhere indicating this. Where did you find the cross reference on the saab engines with the PF-13.

Matt, I am not sure about a Saturn. If you go to acdelco.com and look up a 1986 SAAB 900 in their catalog, you will see both PF13 and PF53 on the list. SAAB used to specify the large filters for their cars, then they switched to the smaller ones. At first they used MANN as OEM supplier and the situation was the same. The large MANN, same size as PF13, was also used in Volvos. The smaller MANN is the same size as PF53. Then SAAB started using UK-made ACDelcos as OEM instead of MANN. All this information is widely known among SAAB DIY'ers. If you go to saabnet.com and do a search on their bulletin board, you will find some information about this.
